Sandhills station

Listen out during the week. Heā€™ll be on every radio station and podcast that will have him on trotting out the same lines as last time. ā€œEverton and central government havenā€™t put the money in, so itā€™s their fault. Some of my mates support Evertonā€.

That'll be it word for word.

...and 'Gliders'....which might be ready in 2028...but only if they're any use to Liverpool FC too.

ā€¦.Andy Burnham makes things happen for Manchester, Westminister jumps when he shouts. Maybe they can do a job swap, imagine Manchester putting up with Steve Rotherham.

Done again. Today.

When I consider the term "Test Event", i consider the testing to be the club testing the stadoum is fit for purpose.

Instead the Mayor and Merseyrail seem driven to make it chaos.

Everton, seamless today? Quick queuing, lots of stock, Easily in with guards helping, lots of entertainment.

Merseyrail, people couldn't get on the train at 11:55 at Orrell Park. 4 cars, but is 2 four-carriage trains every 15 minutes, any different to 1 eight-carriage train, every 30?

Left just before half time, as I had planned to do. Walked straight onto platform and awaited the train, which was again, 4-car. Which was already busy.

But Southport trains cancelled and Headbolt lane running with 20-minute delays.

They've had 4 years to sort this.

We had no trouble getting on the shuttle buses by Lime street, there were 4 of them a about 12:20, when we got on there was still a bus and a half to fill. Took about 30 to 35 minutes on bus. Dropped off 5 minute walk to stadium. Lot of traffic but mainly it's the traffic lights that slow it. Not too bad at all. Ground fantastic loved it and then Tai Pan afterwards.

My experience to and from Sandhills Station on the Southport line

I got a train at 12:46 just over an hour before kick off. There were plenty of seats and no overcrowding. I arrived at Sandhills at around 1:20 pm. There were no issues, there were plenty of staff on the platforms telling you where to go and there was no overcrowding.

I then walked from Sandhills to the stadium. I was very suprised how close it was to the station. It took less than 15 mins to walk it from the station to the stadium and Iā€™m a slow walker.

Go to the stadium just after half 1 with plenty of time before the game starts.

I then had to queue to enter the stadium through my turnstile. I was in the queue for around 5 mins, not too long.

I can genuinely say I had zero issues getting to the stadium and getting to my seat in the stadium.

Coming back from the stadium is a bit of a different story.

At half time they announced that there were problems with the Southport line and that no trains were running on the Southport line. During the second half they announced that everything had been fixed and services had resumed.

They then blew up the game around 65mins in and told everyone to evacuate. A bit bizarre they blew up that early but it is what it is.

Got out the stadium fine and started walking back to Sandhills. Once again I timed how long it took from exiting the stadium to arriving at Sandhills station and it was 15 mins.

Got to Sandhills and they put us in the ā€œpenā€. The queue for the Southport line was pretty busy and was not moving. I think the reason for this is because they had cancelled trains on the Southport line due to some trespassers.

All the other queues for other lines were moving fine. I was in the Southport queue with no movement for about 20 mins. Then they announced that a train for Southport was coming. I thought the queue was way too large for me to get on the next Southport train. What they did was they put a train out of service so that it was completely empty when it arrived at Sandhills so they could fill it up as much as possible. It was a very good plan and it worked well. I even managed to get a seat on the way home.

Apart from that blip going home due to the cancelled and delayed trains I thought the whole operation went pretty well.

I think the only reason there were some problems getting to the stadium and Sandhills being overcrowded is because loads of people left early.

The biggest issue is that there if there are any cancellations or delays on a match day then chaos will ensue

Everything has to be running smoothly on a match day.

35 minutes to travel 2 miles on a Sunday and still have a 5 minute walk to the stadium.

FFS.
