He definitely signed for Liverpool, but I don't know if he ever played for them.

When he left St Mirren to go to Anfield, it was quite a big signing for Scottish football.

Off the top of my head without checking wiki, Liverpool got him from St. Mirren, he was there for about a year and hardly kicked a ball, Celtic signed him and he had a decent career there also playing for Scotland a few times.
I remember hearing in recent years he had a chronic gambling problem then ultimately he was ill in the past 18 months or so.
I remember him as a decent hard working forward with a knack for scoring goals.
