Scottish football

Just been reading back over the posts that preceded this and wow, that's some bizarre escalation (particularly from our Scottish cousins).

I think you all need to take a break from this thread for a while.

Mate, seriously. have you actually read the previous posts?

A guy who comes on these threads to wind people up about Scottish football being a farmers league etc, brought up a betting scandal in Scottish football. And when I pointed out bigger betting scandals in English football, the Everton fan retaliated with bringing up the abuse of teenage boys at Celtic Boys Club decades ago.

The bizarre escalation was from one poster only.

Oh no doubt - I wouldn't get too precious over who was worse though, as I'm sure nobody is really that arsed.

I would suggest your fellow Evertonian was arsed. So arsed in fact he brought up the decades old abuse of teenage boys. If that's him not arsed, I'd hate to see what levels he stoops to when he is.

It's this bit I don't get - why would you have an issue with it being raised?

People should have more awareness of historical cases of child abuse lest it be brushed under the carpet.

And what part of this discussion on Scottish football on an Everton fans forum would qualify as the news?

If people want to discuss the UK wide abuse in football scandal then by all means start a thread on the matter. It's a truly horrendous subject.

Your fellow poster wasn't interested in a serious discussion about abuse. He couldn't handle the fact he was losing the argument, so he posted a link to a case about the abuse at Celtic Boys Club. What part of that isn't revelling in the abuse?

Like I said, if people want to talk about the horrible abuse of youngsters, feel free, but don't try and make out that is what he was doing. He was losing an argument about betting scandals in football, so he decided to post a link about the abuse of youngsters.

Maybe they were placing underage bets as part of the abuse? Context.

Do you honestly think that's what he was doing, trying to raise awareness of the light of teenage boys who had been abused in the 70's and 80's?

How many times can I say that if people want to bring up the subject, tuck in. The abuse of youngsters is a truly vile thing, but make no mistake here, he wasn't highlighting the plight of abused youngsters. He simple posted about them in retaliation, because he was losing an argument about betting in football.

Whether that was the case or not, I don't have an issue with how incidents like this are brought into the spotlight. I wasn't aware of the abuse prior to reading this thread so whatever the motive, I'm grateful to him for bringing it to my attention.

As a Celtic fan, I'd have thought you'd be keen to do the same.

You seriously think I should come on a Scottish Football thread on an Everton fans forum, and bring up abuse at Celtic Boys Club, or any of the other fifty odd UK clubs implicated in the scandal? I highly doubt that would have gone down well.

As for it being in the spotlight, it's a big thing up here, and has been on the UK news a few times. If you go on twitter almost every argument between Celtic and Rangers fans about current events ends in The Rangers fans bringing up the Celtic Boys Club scandal, then Celtic fans retaliate by bringing up things that happened at Rangers. It's never a serious discussion about a really horrible subject. If you want to discuss the matter seriously, feel free.

Fair enough but I'm not a Rangers or Celtic fan and neither are most of the forum so not sure what your point is here?

If you want to discuss the matter seriously, feel free.
You keep repeating this whilst at the same time trying to shut down the discussion - so which is it?
