Think it’s a northern thing more than a scouse thing. We all have a deep appreciation for sarcasm.

I agree with this. Having grown up on Merseyside and spent a few years living in Manchester and 20 years in Sheffield there is a Northern sense of humour. It's a bit harsher in Liverpool where scoring points off each other is a way of life. I'm currently in Glasgow, which is also a funny City, but generally a bit gentler than Liverpool, in contrast to what people might think.
That’s a North West thing. Yorkshiremen take themselves too seriously, can’t take a joke and can’t laugh at themselves, too arrogant. North Eastern humour is really basic, they think they are funny but they aren’t, Chris Ramsey being the perfect example. Makes me wonder if it’s an Irish thing and it’s their influence. Glasgow and all of south west Scotland have the same humour.
Yeh when I say northern I mean north west, I don’t really mess with the other side of the M6 myself haha. But the Irish are very funny so maybe.
