2021/22 Seamus Coleman

Had a nightmare season but actually think he's stepped up well last few weeks and shown leadership at critical time. Putting Iwobi that side to constantly track back helps even if that isn't really long term solution.

Obviously the plan will be next season to start Patterson so hopefully he can be as good as hoped so there isn't an SOS to Seamus around November/December.

We need a left sided centre back so players like Godfrey/Holgate can play on the right.

Whether thats Branthwaite or a new signing.

Coleman I thought may be ok at RCB in a 3...the experiment has failed.

We also need a right back signed to compete/rotate with Patterson.

….i don’t like this system but I think Coleman’s doing fine especially if Kenny is the alternative.

From what is said, he’s clearly a positive influence on and off the pitch, which is a very important factor in our current plight.

Hopefully, conventional back four next season. Coleman & Patterson will be fine, especially with highly rated Stanley Mills possibly coming through.

Likewise, less optimistic he’ll go 4 at the back next season - think 3 centre backs is his favourite set up. Hope he’s not seeing Seamus as the right centre half in that plan.

Coleman is playing instead of Branthwaite imo.

Coleman at CB is a failed experiment

Showed his age last night and maybe 2 games in a week took its toll. Apart from the error in judgement/communication against Leicester I thought he was fine in that game.

I very much doubt that he truly wants to be out there so regularly, if he is honest with himself.

Looking at the game last night we needed CBs to bring the ball forward and also pass forwards to successfully break the lines.

Branthwaite can do those things, while Coleman cannot.

Hopefully after Brentford were safe and Branthwaite starts.
Branthwaite looks a good prospect but let's not take away from the positive impact the back 5 has had for us when we needed a siege mentality I reckon. Seamus did well last night defensively.

Branthwaite would improve that back 5. Coleman had almost nothing to do defensively last night.
