People.co.uk - Everton to sign Seamus Coleman

...also on this - yesterday's Irish Daily Star:

Moyes clambers to score a Cole'

''David Moyes wants to sign Seamus Coleman and disappoint Celtic, Birmingham city, Burnley and St Johnstone.

But Sligo Rovers are unwilling to see their star defender become a toffee unless Everton substantially increase their offer for him.
It is believed that Everton are willing to pay The Bit O’Red approximately €200,000 for the League of Irelands most highly rated young full back.
However Sligo would receive less than €100,000in the initial transfer fee for the 20 year old.
And that is not acceptable to the Sligo management board that it should be able to earn €125,000 in the first payment.

The club wont stand in the Killybegs mans way of moving to an English or Scottish club but feel that they are not being offered serious money for their most saleable asset.

Evertons strong interest may restoke interest from Birmingham where Coleman spent a week on trial last month.
The Ireland under 21 international still has one year left on his contractand as he is under the age of 23, Sligo are in a strong negotiating position under UEFA transfer regulations''

Coleman is a brilliant prospect, have watched him a lot for Sligo....probably the best prospect coming out of the Eircom League at the minute, that said it is a huge jump in standards to play in the Premier League

If he's such a good prospect then around £200k isn't much is it? Let's have him!

If he's an Irish U21 international (he's also played for their U23s) €200k for him seems not unreasonable. Everton paid £1M for Gosling an U18 England international and £400K for Jutkiewicz. They had a lot less experience than Coleman who, by all accounts, seems to ber a real prospect.

Getting a forward in should be the one and only consideration at the moment though.

Initial fee is less than 100k, [Poor language removed] hell Everton, what the [Poor language removed], how [Poor language removed] patronising. A promising talent everton value at less than what Kaka will earn in two days, fuckni idiots.

Seamie is a great player and a real professional too, he doesn't even drink. He'll be missed here if/when he does go but it'd be a great move for him hopefully, I'd hate to see him wasted in your reserves though. Hopefully he can make the step up.

I find the reported offer Everton have made insulting though, I know we need money so ye will probably get away with it but if it was another league, he'd be worth more.

Yeah but its just good business to offer an insultingly low amount first off.

I mean it worked for that Moutinho chap................................................................

Sligoman, only an Irishman would say something like that. PMSL.

By the way, agree with you: €100k down is an insult. I think Everton are a bit like Celtic and see Irish talent like it's their's by right so why do they have to pay. Goes back a long way probably - to the Shamrock Rovers days when no doubt the club got players for practically [Poor language removed] all + a friendly match thrown in (although, to be fair to Everton, the later Home Farm tie-up apparently saw the Dublin club take the piss).

Ayway good luck to you...and thanks for looking after Dixie Dean. (y)

I read this yesterday in the Irish Press, form what i hear, Brum and Celtic also have a strong intrest, hes doen well in the LOI and for the U21's its a massive step up though and it woukd take him a good months to get up to match fitness, pace and become consistent would be a slow burning one for me! Has to be said only the minoriity can make the step up, and some end up in the reserves of clubs north and south in the Uk.

That said some great players have come out of the LOI and had great careers, Paul McGrath springs to mind, Kevin Moran, Roy Keane and more recently Kevin Doyle.

good man Sligoman!!!

Can we have €5m please and Seamie back on loan for 3 seasons?? :P

who are Everton's choices at right back apart from Hibbert, and would Seamie have a decent chance of breaking through to the first team? I dont really follow English football so apart from Hibbert im clueless:(

We have the following players who can play at RightBack.

Hibbert
Neville
Jacobsen
Yobo
Gosling
Jagielka

Of those only Neville, Jacobsen and Hibbert could be called natural RBs, possibly Gosling, but i see him in more of a forward role.

Phil Neville slots in there when Hibbert is unfit/dropped. I think he (Coleman) would get his chance if he was brought in - although this is Moyesie we're talking about here, so he could end up being on the bench for four years and get a run out against Colorado Rapids in June 2013. :P
