Still think you lot loving to criticise him are a bit ungrateful. Not every right back in the league is an all action complete package, you're just salty cause Seamus used to be that, and more. Barrett and Hibbert and that danish lad were sooooo much better

Totally right. Shame that was several years ago.

Nobody is denying he is past his prime but I feel people giving him stick cause we have had ample time and failed to sign a decent replacement. Like Patterson is that on paper but spent his whole first year out of the squad for no reason.
By that same argument, no one should complain about any player. Because it’s not their fault the club didn’t sign better players so I hope you go around all player threads making similar comments about people giving them stick.

This is silly. You're dealing in absolutes which reduces every single argument to ideological pointlessness.

The same rule obviously doesn't apply to every player case, and certainly not for almost anyone else in the squad.

Referring to my first post here, all I'm saying is that Seamus is getting far more stick than he deserves for being past his prime, and furthermore we're being so harsh on Seamus 2023 because Seamus from 2016 was an absolute beast.

That criticism gets in the way of every other merit he has shown (and still shows) for the club, which is far more merit than most other players.

Someone here posted they met him at the airport last summer and he admitted he was probably done and Patterson is first choice by far. Yet he still manages to keep up his level and spot in the team.

I get that we would rather have someone even better, but that grievance does a great disrespect to what value he still brings to the team.

Is he out of contract end of the season? Badly hoping so. How the hell can a player from the Moyes era still be starting games for us? Utterly scandalous.

Because he's a loyal lad doing what's needed when called upon. Nobody is saying he's great and he himself said a new right back was needed. It's not his fault we keep signing duds or wannabe Fifa superstars.

You can be sure if we go down that Coleman will be doing a job for us next year. Given what's been said and "re-sale" figures actively spoken about by those close to Patterson he'll be agitating to leave at the first opportunity.

You started with the absolutes by stating ‘people giving him stick cause we have had ample time and failed to sign a decent replacement’ which takes away any other reasons people give him stick.

Every player should be judged on their performances, not because they have stuck around for 5 years since they started declining.

You also don’t seem to understand the situation. Making comments about Patterson as if he just wasn’t around or wasn’t picked despite the fact he had ankle surgery not long after he joined us, ruling him out. But instead we can insinuate it’s because he isn’t good enough without really saying it.
