2022/23 Seamus Coleman

he's own his own, he takes a look and can see no one is in the box so I don't think he's trying to cross it.
He has two options, He either tries to hold the ball up and wait for a team mate to support, maybe win a corner in the process. Or he takes a pot shot, maybe wins a corner in the process or catches the keeper off guard and thankfully that's what happened. It's a great striker but what was the Leeds keeper doing?

I don’t actually agree with this as I think Patterson will be better under Dyche in a well drilled team the same way Mykolenko, Gana and Doucoure suddenly looked like they knew what they were doing too and I think he has a lot more legs and maybe a bit more crossing ability at this stage of their careers.

I think we all wish Coleman didn’t have to play as much as he is at the moment but that should never be used as a stick to beat him with, he has always given 100% and represented our club with pride and passion.

I, like Seamus, am 34 years old and he’s probably my favourite Everton player of all time.
For me, Patterson is best kept out of that back line. He's been costly for us there. If he has a role to play it'd be as a stand in for McNeil. He can attack with the ball at his feet. But I have no belief in him at all as a defender or even a wide man who'd get back enough for Dyche's liking to protect his RB.

IMO he always needed loaning out to a Championship team to learn his trade as a defender...something Coleman did to good effect.

Wrong,.Patterson looked quality in the first part of the season and then injury disrupted him again ( does seem to pick up a few injuries )

Could be a massive player for us this season when he's back, Coleman has good as he was in the last two home games has generally been poor for years bar the odd game, hasn't got the legs to get forward as much anymore, even said so himself in his interview.

Class goal though, deffo meant it as well

Absolutely this - given where we are with the season I can only see Patterson filling in now with (God help us) an injury to Seamus. In the summer he needs to go out on loan to the Championship to get a full season in him. Time is on his side and having spent such a sum on him the club should treat him with kid gloves. We should bring in another right back in the summer, with top flight experience, to challenge Seamus properly. Then the summer after that Patterson comes back and Seamus dances into the sunset..

Patterson had a good derby but the rest of his games ranged from hit and miss to dire.

FBs have to defend. He didn't on many an occasion and we lost a handful of points by him falling asleep or not having the engine to get back into position when he'd hurtled forward leaving no one to cover.

Coleman is the safest pair of hands by a country mile.

This is the only solution for me.

Coleman is capable of an Indian summer to his career, of sort,s but he's almost certainly going to take a step back from the first team for 2023/24 and we dont have his replacement as I see it.

I actually think he'd do well in front of Coleman. No issue with that. Coleman played there under Moyes when he first started out. Only thing is it'd be at the expense of Iwobi so the question is does he create /offer more etc. Maybe a good option off the bench late in a game.

He wont and shouldn't be put in at the expense of Iwobi. He does have a role to play though in terms of back up. We have back up for every position in the team apart from attack.

He is the perfect backup at this point in his career that has been forced into a starter role because of our horrible injury luck. He can still do the job at a decent enough level and shouldn’t be the target of anyone’s ire because of our garbage recruiting policies. Great player, great guy. Shame he has been the punching bag for a while and it isn’t his fault.
