Given you seem to be such a tactical genius Kev can you please explain what/who these proactive subs were and how they were going to change things as to me our bench has zero options on it. Id like to see James Garner at some point as I know how good he was at Forest last season but we shouldn't be rushing any player back from a back injury until they are properly fit.
fresh legs mainly. gray off, onana off. they were both barely moving in the last 15-20.

not having the bad workman blaming his tools argument - which seems to be the default with this fella at present.

Look at who was on the bench though, you are bringing on snails who can't move and haven't got any pace so it makes little difference tbh. Maybe Simms to aim a few balls at in the second half.

IMO you chuck on Simms and then Maupay (I know) before they scored, which was what around 70-75?

You go 442 and look to relieve the pressure. They were all over the place on the break so if we'd just had an outlet to pin them back then we have a bit of breathing space.

Doucoure's mistake and dreadful defending cost us but so did the lack of subs.

Won't find too many managers sticking on two forwards when they're up by one goal away from home. Especially when those forwards are Simms and Maupay. I see your rationale, but easily could've left our midfield wide open and invited even more pressure on.

Gray was anonymous for about 20 minutes before he was subbed. The manager needed to be proactive and give the team an out ball

As much as they were coming forward at times they certainly didn't seem like scoring until Doucoure gave the ball away, but Godfrey/Tarkowski on that side should also have done more to stop Johnson.

It's a risk for sure but this was a must-win game against a poor side.

'Safety first' has got Everton where it has done.

It's 'safer' to buy PL proven players, even if those players are crap.

It's 'safer' to hire Rafael Benitez rather than go for Christophe Galtier.

It's 'safer' for a player to make that sideways pass rather than take responsibility themselves.

And it's 'safer' only to make subs when you're chasing the game despite it being right there to win, etc.

It's an old school mentality that rots this club. It's why deep down I'd have loved to see Bielsa here (but the circumstances just weren't right), because I think the playing side - as in the entire playing structure of the club - needs revitalising.

This is all fair enough, but at the end of the day it's revisionist and very easy to say in hindsight.

At the end of the day it's absolutely madness, given our position, we end up in a 4 on 4 in open play when we have a goal lead going into the final knockings of the game.

These, again, are just basic areas. Gana goes AWOL and Doucoure gives away a simple ball leaving us exposed. Doesn't matter whether we're playing 2 up top or what in those circumstances. You can't prevent these brainfarts occurring.

I was saying it watching the game like.

Gana was our best player today but he did vacate his position a lot to try and press.

Doucoure's mistake is a bad one but the point is if we had an outball then perhaps that mistake doesn't happen.

But ultimately it's mistakes that are costing us, o of course.

Throwing on Mina for that last corner kick would have been worth it. That fella is an utter waste of space otherwise, brittle as a white walker without any magic powers.

Between his awful management and Brands blowing all that dosh the pair have killed us.
How bout Benitez banishing 2 of our creative players, both over personal and petty grudges? Walsh starting the rot by wasting so much money between 2016 and 2018? Moshiri hiring yes men/women to the board instead of professionals? All just as big a problem as to why we are where we are
