Sadly not but you will definitely make all sorts of exotic excuses if we do end up in a dogfight again.
So more hypotheticals about stuff that hasn’t happened yet

As it stands we have 5 points from 7 games and have loads of our fans on here saying they’d take 17th and it’s just about surviving until we get into the new stadium. If you want to deal in the here and now, then let’s do it.
Lol. Taking about maturity and then mocking my genuine concern for you by disingenuously repeating my concerns for your mental health with regard to myself. You're not being a very nice person but I forgive you.I can accept different views no problem but what I won’t accept is you attributing views to me that I don’t hold as a means of winding someone up, that’s what makes you a troll not your opinion of Sean Dyche. Maybe you can reflect on your immaturity in this respect and I hope you find peace in this issue you have in the future.
Who then?He can only play the players he has available.
Like his mates ?
Who else could do better with this squad .
Really ?
Dreadful manager.
There’s a difference between fans saying we need to stay in this league whilst we move into the stadium and saying they’d take 17th. You do know this? There’s not loads of people saying this either, there’s firstly not loads of people even backing the manager on here and out of those who are there’s even less saying they’d accept 17th. It’s just an over exaggeration.
longer than long ass season this.
il have 17th
please
that’s it mate 17th and hope
for the best
of the ever ending circus fc
It's better than 20th.
But before a ball was kicked I'd have taken 17th and I still would now.
I agree - but "people" need to be ignored, and by "people" I mean people who never wanted to give Dyche a chance in the first place. If we had ground out a draw with Brighton and held on against Bournemouth, people like me - those who are fair-minded and keenly aware of the dysfunctional bin fire Dyche has to work in - would be more than satisfied.
Had we gone to Villa Park and played out a scoreless draw, that would have been an excellent evening's work. But to go two-up two weeks running and soil our pants, nah, sorry. That's torturing people and shows that Dyche's methods are all over the shop.
Basically, if he is trying to transition to a more offensive style he should be sacked anyway, because he hasn't the players for this. This season is not the season for showing he can manage better players. This is the season for showing he can manage what he has. Dourly is fine. His task is 17th, clean sheets, hard to break down, fourth-best defence in the league. These are his calling cards. Going two up only to lose two weeks running suggests he's Ossie Ardiles or Roberto Martinez: not long for this league.
Mind you, this is why Textor's intervention is so unhelpful. He undermined the manager last week. So, Dyche possibly feels he is on a loser no matter what. In those circumstances, why wouldn't he take a punt on going forward. But then you look at our pitiful players...
A total mess.
There is only one way Dyche keeps us up. Back to basics: tough to break down, defensive solidity and ignore the Lampard fans.
I’m asking him to manage us to 17th. Nothing more. Anything else is a flight of fancy with the current absentee board.
Mate?
I've bored the tits off everyone on here all summer saying I'd take 17th before a ball was kicked.
We're crap.
I think fans massively overrate this team, and put too much emphasis on one or two indivduals - Keane and Dyche. Take both out of the equation, and we're still relegation fodder - again, 19th going into February without either them two.
We've not invested in the team that survived relegation on the final Goodison fixture of the season for 2 seasons on the spin.
What changed?
Signing Ndiaye/Lindstrom?
Not sure mate, as I've said on here I expected us <3 points coming to Leicester because I expected Spurs, Villa and Brighton to beat us.
I've regularly shared my view that I think, points earned wise, we overperformed last season. We got very fortunate with injuries last season. We had no big injuries to any key player.
I don't think we have a better squad. We didn't address what we needed to. We've been in a relegation scrap for 3 years because our final third don't produce enough. McNeil, has been relegated. Doucoure, has been relegated. Harrison, has been relegated.
We didn't sign the goals/pace we needed, and we've gambled on NDiaye or Lindstrom being revolutionary. If neither turn up, then we've lost Onana on last season but still relying on Coleman, Gana Gueye, Young...
3 summers of Everton making more money than they've spent in the market. Why are people surprised?
Done nothing but say all this so I'm not in the slighest surprised. My only surprise is we've scored more than I'd have thought, but conceded more. But then, no Branthwaite so it is what it is.
Yes I did. And we are. But the last 3 games hand me a lot of hope we'll avoid the drop.
My target is 38 points and 17th. That can be surpassed if we tighten up at the back.
If we average that - 3.5 points - from every 3 games this season we'll get to safety. So yes, that's acceptable.
Do I think we'll get more? Probably.
I think people have forgotten the mess we're in.
17th each season is our target. That's it. Full stop. If we get higher then that's great. But Dyche was brought in to ensure we stay out of 18th/19th/20th spots at the end of the season...and I doubt there are many Evertonians who think we'll be in those places come May.
The feller has proven he can get us safe. Mess with that and we gamble with our PL future. That is my take on Dyche.
The big issue for us is when he leaves here in May/June next year. The choice of replacement will be crucial.
Yep. It's NOT guaranteed survival with Dyche. But it's a better bet than bringing in some new flavour of the month and hoping they make DCL score more goals.
I'm a pragmatist: safety will do. 17th. Anything more is an unexpected bonus - for now.
Our supporters get that, it's only a noisy minority that dont and who would gamble our future away with a panic sacking.
Yes, this is basically my position too.
I think he really did a fine job in almost impossible circumstances - but this season has been woeful. I don't expect anything other than 17th (because of the car crash upstairs) and, perhaps, a more relaxed April 2025, but the start this term means we could be well in the mire unless he gets things ticking quickly.
Lol. Taking about maturity and then mocking my genuine concern for you by disingenuously repeating my concerns for your mental health with regard to myself. You're not being a very nice person but I forgive you.
Anyway, this is getting very off topic. Sean Dyche has still only managed one win in the league and has overseen us going out of the league cup. That's all very disappointing, isn't it?
Well I’m glad you mentioned it, because here is a selection of posters saying they would take 17th in those exact words.
Even if I completely ignored the context of these posts (which you seemingly have). This is 4 people and one of them is Matty who hates Dyche and Dricondoesnt like him much either. Is that loads of people?
Anyone that wouldn’t take 17th now is a gambler of extreme proportions.
Other clubs will now fleece us given that we’ve got a few quid and the clock is ticking.
Id take 17th put it that way
The injury crisis has really put a dampener on the start of the season.
Anyone who wouldn’t take 17th place now is mad.
I’d take 17th now.
Was never the case unfortunately. Would take 17th now.
It's been one game so it's a bit early for comparisons but I agree that we are poor. I'd take 17th now to be honest but with all the contracts ending we are likely to be in an even worse position next season. It feels like we're circling the drain at this point.
I wouldn't be shocked to see a last minute Branthwaite sale this window either.
I'm very sorry to hear that you will add insulting gestures to your name calling, all because we disagree on who the best manager for this club is. I'm sure, after some reflection, you won't actually give me the middle finger because that would make you look extremely small and petty.Your ‘genuine concern’ is a complete joke and my mental health is none of your business. I’m done engaging with you from this point forward as you’re a complete and utter wind up merchant who isn’t interested in rational debate because you can’t seemingly read the actual words people wrote. Anything you respond to any of my posts from this point forward will just be met with a middle finger response which is really the only sentiment I have for you.
Well I’m glad you mentioned it, because here is a selection of posters saying they would take 17th in those exact words.
Now that's a Sunday evening well spentWell I’m glad you mentioned it, because here is a selection of posters saying they would take 17th in those exact words.
NO AMBITION LAD BECAUSE OF THE MANAGER.It’s mad how
We’re actually comparing ourselves to Fulham,
That’s how far we’ve dropped. But that’s what happens when you hire managers with no ambition but to survive
They have very good attackers; we restricted them to 3 shots on target...and that's without our best defender being on the pitch and no regular LB in there either.
It's a preposterous statement to say our defence didn't perform today.
