2024/25 Sean Dyche

We escaped relegation with relative ease last season (for us of late anyway). I think that's given some the belief we can push on to mid table and beyond and that "we have the players now" to do that. Well, we cant and we dont.

We have the quality of players we have to get us to maybe 14th at a push 13th (with a fair wind behind us). That's our level and that's ok for now. But if we start with the managerial merry-go-round again we can forget about surviving with a couple of weeks to spare.

There's some who believe we'll get an Emery in, or someone less proven but equally effective. They're barking mad. No manager of quality will touch a squad like this unless they get a massive pay check, and that's the route that's got us where we are right now: paying off the latest flavour of the month and their backroom staff.
Largely true (the pushing on bit, less so).

But that doesn’t mean we are watching anything other than a masterclass in misery from Dyche. His austerity football is a bitter pill that can be swallowed if he’s getting results. He got enough for the last two seasons in the end. He is not getting them so far this season and, with no realistic chance of a contract extension, one wonders if the club realises if it is playing with fire by keeping temporary hold of someone who must be in danger of mentally checking out.

One more reason Disco Tex’s intervention a few weeks back was another massive own goal.

He's absolutely 100% correct too.

The stick this feller gets is off the charts crazy.

I was actually looking forward to seeing what Dyche could do this season. He has not really lost any players who were important to the team. He has acquired a few exciting players.

But he's been an utter let down. The first game against brighton was always on the first goal and we didnt get it so i dont blame him too much there. Spurs was a bit poor as 4 nil to anyone isnt really good enough.

The capitulation against Bournemouth was on him. It was just atrocious and he didn't see things that others could and his changes handed all the momentum to them. The Villa game we should never lose from 2 nil up especially when their answer to coming back was Ross Barkley at half time. I thought he should have seen how easily they were getting in behind and should have brought on O'brien way earlier.

Southampton in the cup was a very bad watch. I'm not too bothered about the league cup personally but still he should be winning that one at home.

Leicester was another big disappointment. We looked miles ahead of them and he made changes that completely turned the momentum in their favour and we lost all threat. So again on him.

It's all adding up and you can't draw any conclusion other than that he is what has cost us points. Yes he was good last season in trying circumstances. But this season he has been more of a detriment to us than a positive. You can understand when many are saying that relegation fights are his ceiling. He has put us in a relegation battle already and it could and should have been avoided.

Dyche is going nowhere, more is the pity. There is neither the money nor the inclination to pay him and his team off. Should he be sacked? I think he should, his philosophy is to survive in the league and no more than that, that's why his teams are almost always in a relegation battle. It's obvious our lunatic owner has no ambition or interest for the club any longer and, unless we start to get cut adrift, I think Dyche will see out his contract, I just hope nobody at the club even considers giving him a new one.

One post and they assemble
You knew that was going to happen. One point in a game against a recently promoted side where we, once again, conspired to throw away a lead was always going to be used as evidence that Dyche was the bee's knees. It's funny because they're the crew that accuse the people who aren't fans of Dyche of confirmation bias. It's laughable. One of them will be along shortly to tell me to "get real". Whatever that means.

It's ok at Burnley. I think in 8/10 clubs him or Kompany would have been sacked in their first year of prem. But the club seems to have the willingness to stick with managers.

Here at Everton he has a better squad than at Burnley, the club is bigger, but been under-performing for years.

Barely anyone I read expects top half, but we have a good enough squad to not be in a direct relegation battle or be worst after bottom 3 to achieve a similar finish to last season. But there are worrying things to recycle under Dyche that he's been through before and to a big point he's a part of causing that himself.

That's not true. The football in open play has been better so far this first 5 games than for most other games he's managed in.

I said earlier that he looks like he's adopting a hybrid style of set piece football and open play football. That might take time to bed in balance wise. The attacking three look much more threatening from open play than they have for a few seasons.

We just need to get that defence sorted out with a settled CD unit at the heart of it.

People aren't seeing the wood for the trees here.

His substitutions again cost us 2 points. We were coasting and he made us weaker. Lindstrom for Harrison was poor. Bringing Iroegbunam on and putting as the defensive midfielder made no sense at all.

The players yet again look exhausted from 60 minutes onwards. “Dyche fit” has made us the most unfit side in the league.

His persistence with Keane yet again has cost us. For their goal he jumps into Tarkowski and knocks him off balance the clumsy idiot.

Get him gone, now.
