Barkley needs to play from deep. His game is based on getting the ball from deep and running with it. The opposition hate that.

I agree on the wing backs if thats the way you want to go.

But my winger thing is a viable plan A or plan B.

We need more movement and quality on both flanks. With pace.

A lot of people criticise for lack of plan B. If the opposition start pressing Baines/Coleman you need to counter this with a pacey winger on each flank to drag players all over and a slight formation change

This then keeps Coleman/Baines in the game and gives them the opportunity for overlaps and takes the pressure off them

At the moment Mirallas is injured and Mcgeady is making stupid errors and isn't focusing properly. Pienaar lacks form.

We are short on the flanks. Like Delafeou

I wouldn't go for a back 3 currently. I would play a back 4, with Baines and Coleman in front of that. I think they are both quick enough to pose a threat to the opposition but also provide some defensive cover.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about Barkley. Our only remotely decent performance in recent weeks was with him in central midfield and because he was in central midfield. He Controlled the game.

Unfortunately in the current system we require our central midfield players to fill in holes defensively which is not his strong point. I think we plug those gaps by moving Baines and Coleman further up the pitch and getting a back 4 in place who's primary job it is to defend. I then think Barkley has a license to be central to our play. I have been pondering for some time what is the best way to get the best out of Barkley and I think that would allow it.

This is only a plan A. It is more defence minded. If we are losing in a game, you can always drop 1 or both of them back to fullback and bring on more attacking wide players in wide areas.

When things are going badly I do think the best bet is to simplify and go back as much as you can to basics. Put people in positions to do the simple things and try to get players who are consistent where possible. Having a back 4 who's job it is primarily to defend and having wide men who you know what you are going to get from is a good starting point.

I am happy to play a Mirallas but I would play him up front, alongside Lukaku/Kone. He can have more freedom then with limited responsibility.

Managing is easy.

Its unfortunate for Martinez Atsu and Mcgeady haven't really performed

And Distin is error prone.

Martinez should be given the opportunity to address the wing/centre back in January.

Are you for real??

Purchasing 2 players will not address the bigger issue that you cannot see. Teams know how to play against us and our manager cannot rectify this situation because he his adamant on playing a certain way.

Last year we drew teams out and passed into space, it worked. We disjointed teams and used this to our advantage.

This year teams are sitting in 2 flanks of 4 and waiting for us to get into the final third before pressing us and sending the ball back, if we switch then they switch and out number us.

Teams are also hunting our defence and forcing mistakes, pretty easy to see if you watch the game. Someone will press the back line and the opposition then press the midfield; either the defender plays a poor pass or the midfield are nicked of possession. Our problem is that we have committed men to a counter attack and our now out numbered.

Replacing like for like in terms of new players won't work, because to play this way you need a special type of player, one we cannot afford.

Yes, buy a centre back and a winger, it is needed but also change the style and use what you have at your disposal, raw pace and power. Force the opposition back and go for the throat, look at picking up second balls by playing a higher line and switching the play faster.

Teams can out manoeuvre us currently, that's what needs to be addressed first

Youre the one who isn't for real. You want us to play hoofball :bye:

I've clearly indicated that two new players will enable us to play better both up the pitch in possession and also defensively

Reverting to long ball isn't the answer.

We all know martinez will not abandon his way of thinking and doing his footy.
This slumb and obvious scism thats going on in the dressingroom might be cause of it. big stuff going behing the screen. players who know they arent suited into his style feel crap and are becoming mutinous. they need some catalan war clubbing.

*tongue in the cheek like

And how do you determine that's hoof ball???

Mmmm you've just told del you understand football when clearly you don't; I've just identified issues about how we are being over run and how teams are can set up to play against us and your answer is 2 new players.

Ok, you must be boss at football manager.

So when we sign these new players and we are still faced with the issues I've stated, what then???

When our new centre half is pressed and passes the ball to Mccarthy /barry/be sic and they are robbed of possession.

Or how about when our new winger runs at a full back and then as a covering midfielder to contend with a looses possession.

Understand the game first

He's having a fckin mare, stupid decisions allover the gaff, bringing the pressure on himself and making himself look Clueless.

He's learning on the job, lets hope he learns quickly.

Things we learnt yesterday :

TIKI TAKA IS DEAD
Roberto Martinez is a terrible manager
Leighton Baines is fcking sh1t in midfield
Luke Garbutt is badly tosh
Arouna Kone should retire
Aiden McGeady should have stayed in the SPL
Samuel Eto'o is not a midfielder
James McCarthy is human

Sack this Clown from Catalan and lets GO AGAIN with somebody who knows how to pick a a proper team in a proper formation and is able to motivate the players to perform.

Pretty much this

The issue for me is we gave moyes time in his slump seasons but we went through years of losing our best players from it.

The likes of Spurs keep their best players as best they can by getting a new guy in and hopefully steady the ship to a somewhat respectable finish ie top 7, right now top 7 looks way out of our reach and I worry if we persist with martinez we will lose the likes of mirallas, coleman, lukaku etc.

I honestly like martinez but I feel he isn't going to change things and we need to get someone else in whose willing to change tactic. Koeman, De Boer, Benitez, Monk, some european manager who seems to know whats going on, anyone who could sort us out as I fear last year was a pardew style purple patch

Theres not a manager in world football that would have selected a side such as the 1 that clown put out yesterday, regardless of the style of play, it was almost as if he had listened to the utter weapons in this forum, Baines in midfield, Kone leading the line and his own very special blend of Samuel Eto'o in midfield.

Pretty sure we witnessed the last throw of a dice of a man who knows his time has come.
