Should we sell Arteta to make space for Rodwell?

mawders

Player Valuation: £35m
So, we apparently have an 20m plus asset on our hands in Rodwell. But he can't get in Central Mid because of the Arteta-Felli partnership. Looking to the future, and maybe to stop Man Utd jumping in offering riches and more importantly first team football, should we sell Arteta to make space.

I think it's time for a squad overhaul...maybe this squad has gone as far as it can. So Pienaar gone too, maybe the future should be Billy-Rodwell_Felli_Coleman midfield. Lets face it, Arteta is having a bad season...maybe his form will return but for how long is Rodwell going to hang around for. Get 10m for Arteta, and use it to buy a striker.

Or at least drop Arteta for a few games and let Rodwell come in

Not this transfer window, in summer if he hasn't improved, then perhaps. It is looking more and more likely that we are going to have to rebuild the team at the end of this season, so it'd be best to build around the two young centre-midfielders and the likes of Baines and Coleman as we enter Everton's next 4 year cycle as Chico(?) has mentioned before. Arteta is 29 in March so it does make some sense to sell him before we can no longer fetch good money for him. Personall I'd prefer him to recapture his old form, so we can either go on a cup run or qualify for Europe through the league, but if it doesn't happen, then who knows.

Yeh we wanted to cash in on Timmy too, arnt players allowed to have a spell of bad form. Arteta is by far and away still our best player, he will get his form back.

Short, short memories

We have to hope arteta gets his form back soon. Dont know whats up with him this season but when he plays well everton play well. He pulls the strings when hes on song. I would give rodwell a chance and maybe that will wake arteta up but i wouldnt sell him. Wouldnt be an issue if certain tight arse board members put thier hands in thier sewn up pockets.

Ding ding ding.

We have a winner.

I swear short memories are an epidemic amongst Evertonians (not taking a shot at you Mawders, you ask a legitimate question).

The only hope we have is our future academy boys. In a not to distant past I never looked to pull other teams players i always wanted to see our youth take the field and use their new found adreline to inspire the older boys. We have talent we have to incorporate our fringe players to the full extent now.

Rodwell has to be kept at all costs. My main concern is the stupidity thats running rampant in the administration. The Gosling saga has put me negative toward the deceision makers at the moment. There is absolutely no sense to whats going on. if this continues the summer will result in a sad time for us.

Arteta is worth more to Everton right now than he would be on the open market. You would be selling very low at this point and that would not be the smart thing. Now if he gets his **** together and starts playing like he has in the past, then you could make bank on him. But I don't see his class coming back any time soon.

Arteta needs managing properly he needs taking out of the team right now but he will come good again so no to selling him.

What message would that send to the fans other players and the football world if our "best player" was to be sold because of a drop in form... Give him a rest, then ease him back in...Selling him would just enforce the lack of ambition, etc feared by many fans. I f Arteta was to be sold , I would imagine Davey and a few other players would soon be looking to leave the sinking ship...what is the saying --- form is temporary , quality is permanent....or something like that.

Keep the faith , the boy will come good again..

Yeah, can get rid of cahill as well, what do you think? i reckon Baines is last well.

Rodwell should be getting games before Arteta, Rodwell isnt going to progress sitting on the bench. If he isnt going to be used send him out on loan so he can get experience. look at Jack Wilshire.

If we can get £15m approx in the summer and he's still terrible, it's worth considering, just to send a message to the rest of the squad that nobody is guaranteed a place at Everton.

He is our best technical player, but if he's practically useless on the field of play that technical ability means nothing.

I love the guy, twice the player of Pienaar, but the fact he's still the first name on the teamsheet sends a bad message out to fans and the players.

There's no doubt in my mind he'll come good but he should be droppable.

well i'd say Rodwell should be in the starting 11 until Arteta finds his way again..Arteta stayed when most thought he'd walk so we should be patient with him. he'll come good.
