Should we sign Lukaku's replacement in January

In all fairness O don't think he'll be here next season. So with Jelavic seemingly finished and Kone not too promising (yet), should we be signing a boss striker now for when the inevitable happens in the summer?

This for me is crucial to our medium term success as we are a completely different proposition with a 20 goal a season striker leading the attack.

The signing doesn't have to be in January but it does need to happen. This should be the clubs number one priority next year.

May well depend on what we end up with, qualify for Champions League and we are looking at a different level of striker financially to if we finish out of the european spaces.

Only if the right player is available at the right price. Signing another main striker in January would put pressure on Roberto to change the way we play to accommodate two strikers. Possibly be better to wait until summer.

From listening to Martinez I think a midfielder and a striker will be coming in if possible.

Whether the striker will Lukaku calibre, probably not, but you never know.

Can anybody remember what Martinez did at Wigan?

Did he buy many players in January there? I can't really remember.

A good post. Finding someone who will sit on the bench and is top quality (Lukaku standard) is going to be tough.

Imo we should be looking, open channels with Chelsea regarding Lukaku's future, move Jelly on if possible, and start giving an internal kid a shot on the bench :)

I think we should wait to see what Chelsea do in January - if they do what they have done in the past (and need to do now, given how dire their current forwards are) and spend huge wedge on a fantastic striker then the chances of Lukaku going out on loan again next season go up.

We should sign a loan striker in Jan & wait until the summer & assess where we are & more importantly - what we can afford - then.

As there's a whole host of variables that will affect what might happen, not least where we finish this season & whether Chelsea sign another world level striker in Jan.

Its not ideal obviously because obviously we want our best players contracted to us- but let's not forget that this season Martinez has already risen his profile MASSIVELY.
'Elite' clubs on the continent will be wanting their star players to be farmed to Everton for development. I reckon Martinez will permanently sign 2 or 3 class players in the next 2 transfer windows, but come next season he will most definitely continue to make use of the loan market brilliantly.
