Silly Season January 2014

17M surplus generated by Martinez in 5 months - we now need two or three quality incomings in order to push on and he's been able to get McGeady in for about half a million and he's having to fart around with negotiations for the payment structure of a four month loan.

And forget 'we'll see loads spent in the summer'. That isn't happening...in fact, we're likely to see another window in the summer when the manager is trading players out the door (again) and getting less back off the owners to replenish the squad (again).

...when summer comes around it'll all be forgotten about...as the ownwrs of this club know very well. I bet many have forgotten what happened in the last summer window when we generated a surplus of 10M. There's not a murmur over that now...5 months later. Martinez should have had that surplus from September + the cash in for Jelavic...and that's leaving aside the extra 15-20M extra tv money the club is now getting.
Bang on but bill is a true blue and loves us all

When the loans go back, how many of the squad are people actually satisfied with? Satisfied meaning you're happy for them to start and don't groan when you see them on the bench.

Howard, Joel, Coleman, Stones, Alcaraz, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Oviedo, Gibson, Barry, McCarthy, Mirallas, McGeady, Pienaar, Barkley, Kone.

Based on that, we need a centre mid, winger, attacking mid, two strikers, and a centre back. Then we've got the depth for top 4.

That squad there is top 10. We get injuries every single year and it ruins us. Distin is on the decline, Alcaraz is rarely fit, Gibson is a crock, Barry isn't guaranteed to be here, McGeady is as yet unproven, Kone is pyar crap, Pienaar ain't getting any younger. Where is the money coming from for quality additions? We sell sell sell and the money disappears. Martinez should currently have 25m to splash on quality, but has seemingly nothing. He'll probably get 10m in the summer before sales, and then half of what he can generate. For about five players.

This has been going on for far to long now hasn't it

He's not in an enviable position with money is he. I'll agree with Distin needing replacing, so debateably we need two centre backs, or one and a right back who can fill in for Seamus. Gibson needs to look after himself more. We have to assume Barry will sign and McGeady will be decent, plus Kone is better than what he's showed for us so far. On Pienaar, I actually think he's rank average, but others disagree.

Many seem happy with him and our situation as perpetual also rans and therefore are happy the club is in the hands of a blue...who just so happens to be overseeing the greatest disinvestment of the playing squad in the club's history.

14 years of selling Everton talent in order to keep control. 14 years of zero investment. 14 years of borrowing against future revenues. Bill the big blue...who's more trustworthy than those foreign owners.

Do you think Martinez does not see that?

He can only sign players if they are willing to come and the team is willing to sell

Nobody on here as any idea of who Martinez has tried to sign this window

Ok maybe wait till 31/1 and if there is no more incoming then we will start worrying. I am sure the manager knows the best.

I agree. We'll be fed the usual 'operating costs' line, I'm sure.

It's no secret, we are lining the pockets of the major shareholders.

Really?...or in fact are we punching well above our weight when you consider our limited ability to generate turnover compared to not only our closest rivals but also teams lower in the league. Take a look at the League 2 table and you'll see that in 21st place is a club called Portsmouth - a stark reminder of how it can go wrong if the 'operating costs' are not looked after.

I want us to be as successful as any other Toffee does, but we have to be realistic - the modern game is sadly dependent on money unless you can bring through a batch of potentially top class players through an academy. That looks to be RMs model seeing how many are out on loan, hopefully supplemented by one or two buys each window that can strengthen us. Paying well over the odds now for someone will not guarantee Champs League or a return on that investment via an improved league position.

Based on what?

Based on Kenwright having not put a penny into the club in over a decade, lies about not needing to sell to purchase McCarthy, strikers being sold without replacements brought in swiftly thereafter, etc.

He's probably got 5m to spend like, so generous is loving old Bill.

That's what I don't get.
Quite a number of fans seem just to be happy we have bill and don't seem bothered we are not winning anything.
