I think the club have badly handled this transfer window from a PR point of view. The inferences the manager has it to spend if he wishes, Baines' announcement this week, the accounts to prove it's all good, and a late u21 incoming just look pathetically lame with a weak squad and a first team decimated by injury.

Thing is, people just want to see an expensive signing, irrespective of who it is, or whether he's any good. I'd rather sign no one and save money for the summer rather than spend money on some overpriced player who everyone faps about just because he is a new signing and has an exotic name. However, if Roberto does sign anyone for actual money, then I'll be confident he's decent.

Not so much. People would like to see us sign a good player, mostly because we could do with one or two more. I think what you're confusing is the excitement some people might have for us to spend big on a foreign player we've never seen, which tends to become a source of great hope that we might've got ourselves a superstar. There's not really anything wrong with that, though.

If the transfer deadline ended at midday then you'd be correct.
