It's both the players attitude and Silva's negativity around two defensive midfieldets. He has to take drastic action as his job's on the line. No point getting rid unless someone like Mourinho would come.

Are we seriously saying that if one of these out of work managers who lives for football was approached by us and given complete control, a massive salary, no immediate expectations, and a chance to make history and be revered by challenging at the top end of the best league in the world they wouldn’t jump at it?

Instead we’ll be drawing up a shortlist that probably includes Eddie Howe, Chris Wilder and the Potter bloke from Swansea. You laugh but that is the limit of our ambition. There seems to be a premium put on PL experience, we could be braver and bolder and search at a global level.

If Silva was at Wolfsburg rather than Watford with the same record, he wouldn't have been appointed.

There must be a capable, relatively proven manager out there who thinks he could do better with these players, but who is that?

In this era, managers don't wait to be approached, that's what they have agents for.

I don't think anyone in the elite bracket has expressed an interest in us, if they had it would have been leaked.

We can only hope Brands rips up the tried and failed appointment process next time around.
