Sir Landon Of Donovan

The pace got to him a bit in the second half, he was a bit sloppy in possession at times, but that's only natural considering how new he is to the League and how much football he's played over the past few months.

But in the first half he showed his qualities, he's bright and intelligent. His game is simple but effective and he gives us that outlet, something we've never had under Moyes.

This.

He is a pro.. And for that reason I think he will be back to LA at the start of the MLS season...
I cant imagine how hard it will be for him after seeing what amazing respect and class the Everton fans have.. He will be heart broken im sure..

I do wish he would stay BLUE though :(

And this.

I'm American, and am probably typical of a lot of new American fans to futbol. I grew up on american football and couldn't get into soccer. I tried to watch it here and there, but couldn't get into it until about a year ago until I got FSC free for a month and started watching the EPL.
Since then I've watched quite a bit from England, Germany, Spain, Europa, CL, Mexico, and on down to the MLS. To me, nothing matches the intesity of the English Premire League. I don't know how to characterize it other than to say that it is some of the most INTENSE sports i've ever watched.
I think that if Donovan keeps doing well at Everton, he should try to stay there. We all know that he is good in MLS. But the MLS is not the EPL. There is NO COMPARISON between the two leagues. I'm no expert, but to me the MLS is somewhere between Championchip and League 1. (Fizzy Pop Football as you English like to say LOL).
As far as the Donovan/Beckham thing goes, I think Donovan will have new respect for Beckham playing at AC Milan after playing at Everton. Why would Beckham want to go play in the MLS when he can play for one of the best teams in Serie A? I say, if you're good enough to play in the English Premier League, you play there. Any less, and you are selling yourself short.

Would be interesting to know if the average MLS fan would feel the same way. From what we've seen so far, would like to have him permanently, but once Arteta and Rodwell are back, will he play that much? And will he want to stay if not?

I think he would get a game mate, even with a fully fit team, he can fit in all over the show, you can always find space for talented boys and from what ive seen he looks like hes got talent.

Welts, any facebook updates? Ive lost the link.

Grant Wahl, one of the top sports journalists in America (the guy who wrote the book on the Beckham in America saga) tweeted back on January 9th

"LD contract has release clause."

and also "LD quick to tell me hasn't ruled out Europe."

Similarly, Donovan stated on an ESPN feature today

"Reporter: I know you have a contract with the Galaxy, but if you come over here, you get the bug, you get hooked on English football, and you prove you're good enough, would you not want to stay?

Landon: Like i said, I take it one day at a time. So for now, this is something I wanted to do. I wanted to come here and have this experience. If at the end of it, I look in the mirror and say wow, I don't want to leave, then I'll let someone know. If it's, that was a good time but I'm ready to go back, then I'll go back. But, we'll know that further down the road"

Seconding BB here, both great first posts.

Welcome fellas.

Everton can take in Landon Donovan if they pay the MLS the contract that he signed when the drafts came in (2006??) So it'll be in the region of around £2.5m - £7m. (Eddie Johnson to Fulham, Freddy Adu to Benfica e.g.)

Thanks for the kind welcome! Obviously, I'm not true blue Everton like you guys are. You guys grew up with it, and it's in your blood! But you know good and well that I can't pull for the billion dollar spenders in the top 4! There's some good vulnerability in the top 4 this year, I want to see Birmingham City creep up there! Or EVERTON of Course! And since I've got Welsh blood in me veins, Swansea or Cardiff to EPL next season! Don't hate me cause I'm part Welsh! :D

It's because Everton is a proper football club, eddy. That's what it is. You can catch the bug if you're open to it. It's often been said that Evertonians do not choose, but are chosen. It's kind of like falling in love. What a game. What a day.

Donovan's played a lot of football, but I don't think he got the real thing out of club football until today. I can't help but believe that he has to love this. The atmosphere at Goodison carried right to this small blue spot in Northeast Florida, and it's what every true footballer spends his life looking for. All praise to the lads today. (y)

this lad was ****ging beckham off for prostituting himself to milan though lads and all of a sudden he wants to join a european club?

the lad has double standards even though the 2 games ive seen him play for you looked quite good and at home.

Actually he got on to Becks for not committing to LA like he should have.

It's all water under the bridge now.

but to be fair mate he wasnt exactly commited to LA tonight when he was asked if he wanted to stay at everton or return to LA and he said" im not thinking about that im taking one game at a time"

them comments aint exactly respectful to LA are they?

dont get me wrong he is too good to be playing in america and thats no disrespect to any american fans on here either.

He's done the business for LA so I don't see where he's being disrespectul to them.

I think it was understood that there was a chance that he could make any loan deal with any club permanent if it works out and I think the LA supporters know that.

Even more so, I doubt that many Galaxy supporters would begrudge him the opportunity, even though he's an important part of their team.

It's like the Dynamo and Stuart Holden. We don't want him to go but we'll all be very happy for him if he hooks on with Bolton or any other club to further his ambitions.

Well I would like to think I am an average MLS fan, do I think that MLS can compare to the Premier it's a little unfair. The league is only 14 years old, the first staduim is only 10 years old, some teams are even removing the seats just for supporter sections. You guys came to visit and played my team (Columbus Crew) a couple years ago it was good fun even got to have a beer with players from Everton. I do think that some MLS teams could beat the teams that are at the bottom of the table, MLS is hindered with roster size and the salary cap in order to survive in the sports landscape here in the USA we compete with NFL,MLB,NBA NHL, College Football and College Basketball. I think fans of MLS know that we are building something special and it's going to be a long process. I remember when NASL folded and it took a World Cup to start MLS.

I don't think any MLS fan would be upset if Donovan stayed at Everton, they know that he has done a lot for MLS in promotion and done everthing he has been asked to do he is a class act. I think that if he does want to stay in the Premier League he will stay at Everton because he is wanted, Moyes showed that by giving him the 9 and playing him, the fans showed it by the cheers and the applause. I hope he does stay at Everton, because I ordered a Jersey with his number on it.
