Only players joining the MLS have to be done by Friday. Players can leave whenever as long as it fits in with the countries Transfer Window i.e September 3rd for us.

Haha, to be fair there's so much BS floating around on the internet it can be difficult to see the wood for the trees. Unless the MLS has it's own specific restrictions on player movements i don't see why Donovan would be restricted from registering at any point up until the end of our transfer window.

Regardless, i really can't see it happening by friday as if the Galaxy were going to give him to us they'd want to have a new DP tied up, something which i have not heard about.

Not necessarily true.

Remember the window for the MLS is different than Europe. Donovan's contract has a buy out clause but the amount is unknown (undisclosed terms). The liklihood of Landon being bought mid-season(MLS) does diminish after friday but it doesnt exclude the opportunity. **EDIT: the point about a replacement DP Brennan mentioned is my reasoning as well**
His contract is through 2014.
Conceivably, the LA Galaxy could miss the playoffs therefore ending his season in late October. Everton could make a play for him prior to the end of the transfer window with the assumption LD would join the team in November.

He will be ours, just a matter of when. I love conjecture.

This would make sense. A league would want to control the periods during which you can add a player. It should be less concerned about when you subtract one.

Yes, he can be transferred after that period.

It doesn't make a lot of sense for Galaxy/MLS to do so as they can't get a replacement in, but it can be done.

I guess my point should have been that Galaxy/MLS cannot get a replacment in after Friday, so it make sense to make this happen by Friday unless Galaxy/MLS can role with the fact they are a player down if Landon goes this week.
