You can regrow spring onions. Cut of the bottom of said onion and place in a jar of water - 10 days to a couple of weeks you have new ones. Rinse and repeat until you die.

Apparently works for loads of thing : beetroot and herbs to make but two. I'm trying rosemary and thyme. Haven't really lost anything if they fail so worth a go.
