But that was amazing, considering they were looking for something that they didnt know from sure actually existed in the first place! Just data and some behaviour of atoms or something suggested there was something missing, but they didnt quite know what.
I will not good off topic for long either. I find it more amazing that the original physicists formulated the idea of quarks way back in the 1930s.

We're lucky that we have such equipment to examine the world now as we can; then it was just immense brain power and supposition.

Basically, I think of myself as a relatively intelligent fella, but it bloody amazes me what other human beings are able to actually do.

Back on track...

I was reading about Voyager I the other day: thirty-seven years in space; over 19,500,000,000km from Earth (interstellar) and still recording.

I think LHC stuff is quite ok in a Space Thread. Pretty much what it was built to make if you think about it!

I got really into the Voyager stuff when I found out that the guys who worked at the JPL and worked the trip out using graph paper and slide rules left and set up an Investment company using the same sort of processes. It was pretty successful. Over here, we know their most famous output as the Dow Jones Index.

The chairman was the first, probably only, to conduct a board meeting from space when he paid to to take a trip on a shuttle, or the ISS. Dennis Tito.

Just don't descend via Crib Goch in the dark!

Done it many times! Less scary in the dark as you can only see about 1 ft in front of you with your headtorch. - Actually crawled the length of the ridge once. The wind was so strong, it would have blown me clean off if i'd stood up.

anyway check this image of the milky way from snowdonia (looks like it was taken in the devils cauldron)

Wowzers. That is beautiful.

And also an album cover in waiting.

Off topic for which I apologise. I was on Crib Goch the day that Anthony Rawlinson fell and was killed in 1986.
