Game passes him by against big teams

incorrect

he's tried too hard against United and L'Pool.

But on neither occasion has he had two 'sprinters' around him to do the leg work and tackling.

Rooney just needs to keep his calm on the ball, which he hasn't done lately but having McCarthy and Gueye with him should help.

He's our biggest goal threat and best passer.

100% spot on. They controlled us last year. I just wish we would show some verve.

Well don't write us off then.

Last year we didn't have Bolasie there to make runs in behind, or Rooney to (hopefully) get on the ball, or McCarthy to crunch into their midfield or Gylfi to whip in a set-piece.

We did have a 25-goal per-season striker, mind, but ey, we've got a Turkish bloke now.

Exactly my point. Not got legs to press in midfield and caught in possession way too much.
Agree if he keeps it simple and tidy he's an asset. Want him to do well

But he's the only player we have capable of using the ball well in midfield. He has the legs around him in the form of Gana and McCarthy.

Like I said agree but needs to be better in possession which is one of his strengths. Hopefully Wembley brings best out if him and 2 lads with legs around him

McCarthy should start instead of Schneiderlin as it is more attacking, not because McCarthy is better going forward, but simply because he's quicker and presses higher, which means we don't sit on the edge of our own box.
I dont disagree, I just think we've speculated game after game about more attacking lineups and have yet to see one, I dont see it likely BFS starts now with an away game to Spurs.

Sam started a pretty attacking line-up vs Man Utd...

Davies-Schneiderlin-Rooney / Vlasic-Niasse-Bolasie

That's very attacking. We just didn't play well.

Yes, but that was with A. Gueye injured so he had no option and B. With the cup game in mind, so he played a bit more of a B team, and C. At home
