San Lorenzo was always considered the 5th biggest team in the country, although Estudiantes and Velez fans always discuss that place arguing they deserve it since they are world champions and San Lorenzo not (and until 2014 they didn't have Libertadores either) ... the difference is that San Lorenzo has a much larger fan base than Velez and Estudiantes, and i personally think they have a decent fan base, as they aren't the typical fans who doesn't even care about football like many from Boca, River and Independiente, so i respect them for thatReall cool photo of the two stadiums there, think Racing have a nicer one though
Side question, how are San Lorenzo viewed by other big Argentine teams?
A freind of mine is a fan but its good to get other prespectivez
I think Marcelo Tinelli had a huge influence in San Lorenzo getting a lot of world wide support. Probably the most charismatic tv Presenter in the history of television. Used to love watching Videomatch when Marcelo and Larry would tease each other after a Boca - San Lorenzo match.San Lorenzo was always considered the 5th biggest team in the country, although Estudiantes and Velez fans always discuss that place arguing they deserve it since they are world champions and San Lorenzo not (and until 2014 they didn't have Libertadores either) ... the difference is that San Lorenzo has a much larger fan base than Velez and Estudiantes, and i personally think they have a decent fan base, as they aren't the typical fans who doesn't even care about football like many from Boca, River and Independiente, so i respect them for that
Here in Argentina the biggest difference between the so-called "big 5" and the rest of the teams is that they have fans all over the country, mainly because of their achievements between 1910-70... but San Lorenzo is NOT considered as a main rival by the other "4 bigs" who have more trophies, bigger fan bases and they already have their traditional rivalries.
SL's main rival is Huracan, a historic team from the city of Buenos Aires that at the time was part of the "big 6" but has lost a lot of prestige and fans in the last 50 years and now are considered irrelevant

Argentinian football has been tarred and ruined for ever by the "hinchas'. Dont know if they'll let away supporters back ever.
As for the big 5 i would rank them
River
Boca
Independiente - 7 Copa Libertadores
Estudiantes
Racing
Velez "el sexto grande despues de Ferro".
Hate to put a team in red ahead of your club but 7 continental titles is impressive.
Funny enough my Uruguayan team is Racing De Montevideo, and i always watched Banfield because they played in green and white hahaha.
