@dholliday and anyone else who doesn't like the prequels, if they have a LOT of time, might enjoy these if they haven't seen them already, they went viral a couple years ago.

(NSFW)

Excessively long reviews done in the character of an old, psychotic man (to break up the monotony of the writer just doing it dry) that breaks down those movies thoroughly. Not only the plot holes, and obvious stuff, but the bigger issues which have been alluded to already - character depth, general theme, etc.

(Have posted once before on another thread somewhere)

Frankly, the 70 minute or so reviews were better and far more entertaining than the actual movies.

haha, yeah...seen this before...very entertaining!

I think Knights Of The Old Republic is certainly a better Star Wars story than the prequels: better characters, better dialogue, more involving deeper universe. Can't imagine a JJ Abrahms formulaic disneyfied actionfest is gonna come close. You just know it's gonna be full of plot contrivances, hammy cliffhangers, overblown music and hectic-editing.

Max Von Sydow is THE MAN! Can't believe he's still alive though.. he was old even when he did The Exorcist!

I know! he was about 70 in The Exorcist, ffs.

I like what JJ Abrams has done with Star Trek so happy to wait and see what he does with Star Wars. As for Disney, they haven't exactly done badly with Marvel since they bought them so won't judge them too early either.

Personal preference...I personally despise the new Star Trek films. No imagination, no genuine warmth from the characters (copying them from the classics was the first of many bad ideas). Terrible films.

But look at the box office...they're successful. Just as many of these dumb modern action blockbusters are.

Cultural history won't remember them well, tho'...I assure you.

the fact Harrison ford already made that last Indiana Jones movie pretty much tells the old cast won't even read the script before signing up, just the amount of zero's on their cheque.....

it'll be a massive box office success but most likely panned by critics & fans alike......people will go to see it because of nostalgia, and I'd imagine the original cast will feature very little (which may be for the best really)..

Saw the first one and thought it was ok. Did he direct the second? Really bad film.

Know nothing at all about the movie and what is going to be in it, but getting slated already. Standard GOT right there.

What we do know is that there is a budding cast of young talented actors (similar to the original cast of the 70s) and a fantastic CGI man in Serkis. Seems promising so far.

100% agree. Gene would be rolling in his cryogenic chamber!

Utter crap this will be, Disney will be more concerned about whoring out the brand and raking the cash in from merchandise.

Get ready for the Star Wars Whopper at Burger King, or how about DHL "using the force " to deliver a poster.

Cocksuckers will ruin this even more than Jar Jar binks.

You realize the original trilogy is almost responsible for that kind of merchandise etc. From films?

Even the prequels were practically written with computer games and merchandise in mind.

I'd be amazed if Disney cocked this up more than Lucas did with the prequels.

Yes, but this whoring by Disney will take it to a new level. It will be made air tight 24/7

You want to know what the new star wars will be like?

Watch Star trek. There you go.

With Harrison Ford in a cave on a planet somewhere to make a cameo to Beebop Solo, long lost son of Hans.

I can't help but feel that Lucas made the prequels with solely the merchandising in mind.

They've already got Angry Birds Star Wars and Lego Star Wars, and it is everywhere already. Obviously it'll be ramped up for the release of the new film, but it can't be whored much more than it already is surely. Maybe I'm in the minority but I like Disney, and I see these new Star Wars films as being for my kids as much as the original trilogy was for me.
