I find it hard to 'hate' someone like Coppell to be honest, he just seems like a nice guy and a good manager.

Too many short memories methinks.

Steve Coppell - first class w****r.. (n)

Maybe you forgot the Mike Walker tapping up scenario. Guess who the FA appointed to investigate - the one and only (Kopite) Mr. Steven Coppell.

Oh did you forget all the walk outs at Palace, Man City etc.

Can't agree with that.

He's intelligent, eloquent and understands the game better than many. Understands life and football's place within it as well - that's why he doesn't display overt passion. The game needs more like him. Compare him with say Lawrenson who's complacent and thinks he's funny. I'd listen to Coppell's views in preference to that pillock any day.

Still don't understand why he left City when he did - quoted health issues but refuses to discuss it even today. Something shady going on there with Mr Lee, maybe?

I like Coppell, he's very understated but gets the best out of a squad. His 1st season with Reading in the Prem he had a team that were very hard to break down but had a few minor blips that didn’t get them into Europe. But unlike Hull City, they were consistant over the season. Kevin Doyle, Dave Kitson and Leroy Lita were on fire for them.

He just never really built on that the following year and it hurt the squad. Getting religated adds further problems and they tailed off by the end of this season resulting in them not get back into the prem.

He's seems like he's got a lot of dignity and respect IMO. Reading respected him and he did the same back. He was there 6 years and I think he just felt that he wasn’t able to give the fans and the club what they wanted, took the blame, felt he's taking the club backwards, and stepped down.

But I do believe a lot of key players will jump ship now.

he's been a pretty good manager over the years, but he really was a top player before some hungarian thug caused his career to end prematurely. i'd love to have a player like him up & down our right wing, a great talent with high work rate & a superb team attitude.

A cracking winger at Man United in his time, comes across as a decent bloke and I wish most Scousers lots of luck apart from the redshyte lot. :D

Sorry for that last post, I put Scousers in the same sentence as the Redshyte,
please forgive me. :(

Think he is an absolute melt. He never sticks to long with a club, ever. Today he's resigned from Reading. So he didn't get them back up staright away and he walks out on them. His response to failure - resign. Don't like him, views?

His first job with Palace - he was there 9 years. He was at Reading for 6 years. He got relegated with them, had a go to get them back up, and then decided he had had enough.

When you think that Moyes is the third longest serving manager in the Premier league with 7 years it kind of blows your claim out of the water.

Sorry mate.

It's ok, i was waiting for you to prove me wrong again, you took your time on this one though kid. :)

Also, you have backed up your argument with good stats, fair play, you are right, i suppose what i'm gettin it and what annoys me is that it was so easy for him to walk out on Reading. They are in serious danger of going into freefall now, just think he could of maybe given them another season to get them in the Prem, and if not fair enough walk away.

Well what doesn't concern Everton doesn't concern me. But from a neutral point of view I can see why he has decided to walk, 6 years is a good crack of the whip, he took them up and brought them down. He has been a manager since 1984 so perhaps a break is what he needs. Could be any number of reasons.

Yeh i agree. It's the fans i feel sorry for though, i get the sense that whoever follows him though will not do as well. Hopefully though they get someone decent in and they challenge again to get back to the Prem. As you say though, it doesn't concern Everton, so no need to get too fussed (y)

Eh? Again? When have I done it before?

I'm a stickler for stats though mate, it's how I proved to everyone that Yak has the 2nd best scoring record for Everton behind Dixie.

You proved my kopiteness by me 'defending' their manager and their Everton writing journo. And how i like Gonzo and Sammy Lee  :P

Wherever he ends up next, and I strongly suspect a prem side, I also suspect his first signing to be one steve 'not been so hot at villa' sidwell.

Is a manager that likes workers, bit like moyes, is a manager that wont take any shenanigans off players that consider themselves a cut above - bit like moyes. I like coppell, knew how to laugh at himself just before capello was appointed national boss.
