Get someone who's actually worked in the role before and not appoint someone that has never been a dof. Or just swerve it altogether
Good advice. Perhaps Moshiri need to hire, someone who actualy know something about football.

GOT would be a good place to look. In my humble opinion

Soo what happens when Walsh is gone?
We get a new hopeless scout, appointed by Moshiri.

Just like the three managers, we already had this season.

It's money out the window

To a certain extent, we seemed to manage fine before Gravy Train Steve arrived, with his man bag and dodgy passports.

Moyes, albeit limited as a manager, had no choice, due to a limited budget and had to unearth cut price gems - Arteta, Cahill, etc.

Martinez, much as he turned into a mad man in the end, generally got it right with his signings ( I`m not including Alacaraz, Kone etc in this ).

The appointment of Koeman and Walsh in tandem, was the start of this free fall that we`re in.

We were led to believe that Walsh was the main man in Europe for his knowledge of player stats, which seemed to be the case with the signing of Gueye.

However his DOF philosophy now seems to be that of a sales rep, with an unlimited expense account on a extended European business trip.

It wouldn`t surprise me for him to be photographed in Thailand with a couple of Lady Boys on his arm.

Nah

Lukaku, Barry, McCarthy and first season Deulofeu. Eto'o was amazing but he quickly messed that up (can't believe we had Sammy Eto'o ffs).

The rest were/are utter tripe.

Martinez's signings were generally poor in my opinion. Lukaku was obviously an excellent buy - although that was hardly rocket science - and Holgate looks like a good one. Other than that, I think the best we could say about any of his others signings would be that they weren't bad in the sense that they did a decent job for a period. For me though, players like Funes Mori and Niasse were really disappointing uses of our resources when you think that the likes of Van Dijk, Wanyama, Mane, Alderweireld, Payet, Lanzini, Kante etc were all probably gettable for us during his tenure.

100% agree.

His job title is 'Director of Football', therefore he should be directing the footballing strategy of the entire football club. From youth teams to the academy to the first team.

He is just a glorifed head scout. He said himself he's watched Tosun twice, both in the Champions League, so he didn't actually go to watch him play in Turkey. Sure he's probably sat and watched some video of him via some scouting / analytics platform, but is that what we're really paying him for to swan around Europe getting a tan and watching a couple of matches.

TBH mate it think this is my main gripe, he ISNT doing what a DoF should be doing, he is a glorified head of recruitment. The club are at fault for giving him a job title he doesnt seem to know what to do with.

Although i have nothing against Thailand or ladyboys, i completly agree with your post.

However the problem-crusher aka Moshiri, seem to be part of the overall situation.
Although the situation has been evident, for longer than Morishi's regin, like you say.

That just does not justify, the on-going, lack of progress.

History of Everton tell us, that the key to titles is first of all, the manager.
It is very evident, at the moment, that that may be more soo, than we even realize.

Soo let's start looking for, at quality manager and scout and stop waisting money and time. Once and for all.

Btw, i love your comment on Martinez. He was a bit crazy at the end, was he not? He started to freak me out :)

Imo Martinez did well with his transfers.

Lukaku, Mccarthy, Holgate, Mori, Del, Barry, Robles were all decent and improved us.

Obviously the likes of Kone, Mcgeady, Eto'o not so much.

Whether you all rate them is down to opinions but he attracted and convinced calibre of player that his successors were incapable of with his jedi mind tricks.

I find the lack of faith it Steve alarming.

I am going to be reluctant to allow many to back track here.

..it’s quite simple, though. He’s responsible for on the field strategy and has one of two key roles to play in transfer activity. If Walsh doesn’t agree a transfer it doesn’t happen.

Since he was appointed, we’ve had more monies to spend. Since he was appointed, the team and squad are the poorest in recent memory.

I don’t think the lack of faith is alarming. He’s had a key role in putting us in a dark hole. He has to dig us out now.

Love the fact that everyone seems to not know what Steve Walsh's role is, but are convinced he's doing it poorly anyway.

I suppose with Joel being replaced in goal, we have to find someone to blame, so why not Walsh? I mean, realistically we should be challenging on all fronts after appointing a DOF 18 months ago. Nevermind what the players or managers are doing, it's solely down to this 1 man.

And what right does he have to have been a PE teacher in his past? Noone who has ever had any job outside of being a born and bred footballer from birth should have anything to do with our famous and storied club. And that goes for Neville Southall as well... [Poor language removed] Binman.

But that's what I was getting at really, signing 'decent' players is the absolute least you expect from a manager and that's all he really managed.

He took over from Moyes who made excellent signings like Cahill, Arteta, Pienaar, Lescott, Jagielka, Baines etc and failed to really make the same sort of signing himself, despite loads of players in that sort of bracket moving during his time here, as outlined in my previous post. Funes Mori is not the world's worst defender, but he is at best worth what we paid for him - that's not good business. It's a problem which has continued under Walsh, very few of the players we've signed have gone on to be significantly better than you would expect for the outlay, which is extremely disappointing.
