These days you want a coach rather than a manager. A dof can take away all the faff that Carlo doesn't need on his plate. But when it comes to buying players it should be 100% Carlo's choice. They live and die by their signings so it's got to be him that makes them.

Im not sure the manager ever did all that to be honest, he picked the players and someone at the club negotiated a deal.

Im yet to be convinced of the value of a middle man in a DOF, certainly one on a multi million contract.

Ancelotti doesn't need someone to tell him who we should sign.

It makes utterly no sense to me. We have a top manager so what is the actual point of a DOF when they are far less qualified to judge a player.

Ancelotti will know what players he wants and will tell Brands to sign them, that's how he's worked at other clubs, difference is though if player A is unavailable then he'll go to player B, C, D, we won't be going through a case where if player A isn't available we will still plug at it at the manager's insistence and cost of other targets

Walsh obviously worse but Brands hasn't been great so far to be honest.
