Well, I'll stand corrected if he comes back from the Euros having snapped up some class players at knock down prices. Assuming the link to the two SPL players are true though, this club is pruning budgets and I wouldn't expect anything more from this transfer window than a couple like them coming in on reasonable PL wages paid for by an outgoing player and with the remainder going to pay down debt interest. That's just the reality of our existence over the past few years, and it's a reasonable projection forward based on that alone.

Oh I agree mate, I will be gutted if we were to ONLY sign these two, or players of their ilk this window. I see Naismith as a squad player who may be useful to have around, but there are definitely options out there that could improve our first 11, which has to be the priority. I suspect, like you and most (ALL) Evertonians, that if we don't it will be due to finances. Again :(

But I have to give them until the window closes before I pass judgement on how our business has gone this summer, which is all I really meant :)

First team quality players (if we're seriously after them and improving our lot) has to be the priority; only after getting them in should you use what's leftover for bulking up your squad. If we're really going for these two right now, then the reasonable assumption to make is that they're being looked at as starters.

We're going backwards. That's not a prognosis by the way, it's a statement of fact. We're dropping below what we were a few seasons ago and the quality we have to call on - now that Donovan's gone back again and Pienaar is far from a permanent - is getting thinner each season.

It's a shocking state of affairs. Moyes seems relaxed about it though. It'll put another million on his salary no doubt.

I think the flack that Naismith is getting on here is a bit uncalled for, a fair few Rangers fans rated him higher than Jelavic. My only worry is the injury thing. But I definitely think he will offer more in the second striker roll than a certain Tim Cahill has done for the past... 18 months (at least)

As for the Right Back, Whittaker? Not seen anything of him, but with Neville getting older by the day, and wanting to concentrate on coaching (i hope) then it's a decent option to have, I dunno if he could cover LB or anything like that either maybe.

A lot of people on here like to call players crap having barely watched them play. I wouldn't worry about it.

Wiki nails it :

"Naismith has been compaired to a young James Mcfadden and his blistering pace and love of a step over or 10 only confirms this, 442 Magazine once asked him what his ultimate aim in football was he replied "To show Davek that I am better than Dixie Dean" He then broke out into a rendition of "Im Young" by Tulisa"

You gotta do what you gotta do.

Hopefully in my lifetime I'll see Everton make a big signing from a big European team...

I'm 18.
