It was Newcastle who were the danger ...
But then , The Papers got the fact that it WAS actually another Footy Club , an' NOT a Group of Ice Cream Salesmen from Boise , Idaho whom were lookin' to step in , so , I suppose that's somethin' like ...

Out of interest mate did you hear that his first contract demands were way out of our budget and we felt we couldn't compete before him & his people returned to the table ? Last week I was told that then shortly (not even 24hrs) that it was almost done , I'm pretty confident it's true and I'm taking the positive that it's the player that's been willing to be flexible because he wants to come here as I think there may well be better offers available

Obviously i dont know for certain, but it might have been that the first wage demands, no team would even think of matching due to his recent injury record, not only that, it might have just been a way of Naismith getting the most out of hte club he is joining, rather than actually demanding stupid wages.
Not saying its definately that, just it might be a possibility.
Yeah appreciate that mate , my contact/sources tend to be working in that sphere so if I hear gossip it's normally to do with a deal in which they are involved or crossing their paths. In this particular case working on behalf of another club in relation to Naismith , it was more the way it was said to me namely he 'wanted too much' so we were out of it. Then within a very short time frame that it they'd been prepared to negotiate and we were favourites , it didn't come across to me (although I could be wrong ) that it was your standard negotiation toing & froing. I was certainly told Sunday morning that despite our position as favourites at least one offer on the table was more lucrative than ours.
Meh.
If his name was De La Naismitherito I may have been excited.
We need some more exotic names ffs.
