Out of interest mate did you hear that his first contract demands were way out of our budget and we felt we couldn't compete before him & his people returned to the table ? Last week I was told that then shortly (not even 24hrs) that it was almost done , I'm pretty confident it's true and I'm taking the positive that it's the player that's been willing to be flexible because he wants to come here as I think there may well be better offers available

Obviously i dont know for certain, but it might have been that the first wage demands, no team would even think of matching due to his recent injury record, not only that, it might have just been a way of Naismith getting the most out of hte club he is joining, rather than actually demanding stupid wages.

Not saying its definately that, just it might be a possibility.

Glasgow Rangers contract rebel Steven Naismith is moving closer to a free transfer to Goodison Park, according to widespread media reports.

The Scottish international refused to join the Rangers "newco" project after the Gers went into liquidation last month, and thus became a free agent.

Naismith, 25, has long been on the radar of Everton gaffer David Moyes, who has swooped to snatch him up for no fee, hopefully ahead of a return to pre-season training this Thursday.

Naismith suffered a nasty injury which saw him miss the majority of last season. As such, any move to Everton would be dependant on passing a stringent medical on his knee ligaments - known on GrandOldTeam as the "Ross Barkley Test".

Naismith is a "second striker" type of forward who will be looking forward to re-uniting with former colleagues Nikica Jelavic and David Weir at Goodison Park.

Get re-tweeting, liking and such for the greater glory of GrandOldTeamshire. Ta.

Dare I say it but he could be a quality addition if he manages to force his way in to the starting line up behind Jelavic and rekindle that understanding they had at Rangers.

I'm fairly optimistic about this one.

Yeah appreciate that mate , my contact/sources tend to be working in that sphere so if I hear gossip it's normally to do with a deal in which they are involved or crossing their paths. In this particular case working on behalf of another club in relation to Naismith , it was more the way it was said to me namely he 'wanted too much' so we were out of it. Then within a very short time frame that it they'd been prepared to negotiate and we were favourites , it didn't come across to me (although I could be wrong ) that it was your standard negotiation toing & froing. I was certainly told Sunday morning that despite our position as favourites at least one offer on the table was more lucrative than ours.

Easy to forget aswell, from Naismith's point of view, does he want to come down to a club completely new, with people he's never played with it? Or would he benefit from at least knowing a senior player who is becoming a coach, and the oppurtunity to see how his partnership with jelavic does in the Premiership.

I dont think anyone can complain really, free transfer, reasonable wages by the sounds of it... Plenty of positives such as versatility, jelavic...

Hopefully we get it done within teh next day or two and can see him get some game time against Morecambe!

For allwe know, he could have been training with the squad today.

a bit off-topic, but is this the international striker foxy was on about? or was that someone else, LCAB hasn't mentioned any other deals in the pipeline other than Pranjic, so i'd assume foxy was talking about Naismith.

Regardless of his knees, this is good signing. Yes people will moan that he's an SPL player, and the likes of Stoke, West Ham etc are after him, but all that is irrelevant. Its a blend of players that make a team and not indivduals; Naismith and Jelavic formed quite an impressive partnership at Rangers and seemed to have an understanding. I also remember reading an article a couple of months ago about Jelavic hoping Naismith would sign.
