This seems a bit daft really, aren't they essentially free agents and can stay if they want to? Not just Naismith but the likes of Ness, Lafferty, Davis and Whittaker?

The SFA are simply covering their backs rather than not agreeing to the 'free agent status'. They don't want to clear the registrations only for Rangers to appeal the decision and take it to Fifa, making themselves look bad. This simply misses out the middle man of what would e an inevitable process.
