Stop the Clock

I have to admit I was initially skeptical of the idea, but I attended the University of Maryland game last weekend and have changed my opinion. It works very well for the college game. The clock stops for goals, substitutions, and injuries and you know exactly when the half/game will end.

I'd have shots ,goal or no goal.
That's it.
Like almost every other game played in the UK on a weekend, championship doesn't have a quarter of the bull the Premiership does.

Trying to graft on further 'solutions' to what is, in essence, a simple game would be redundant if officials were properly trained, standards applied across the board and accountability in place. The patchwork of labyrinthine rules should also redrafted to allow footballers to play the game to its competitive objectives - scoring goals and entertaining fans.

There are very few actual rules now. The issue is the palaver of interpreting them.
The Jordan Ayew handball or no handball on Friday night being a very good example.

The utter arrogance of the footballing authorities around the world means that they are far too good to learn from other sports. I cant think of another sports that uses video referees to check matters that does it worse than football. The lack of transparency is hugely concerning. Stopping the clock (in the stadium so all can see what is going on and having a timekeeper independent from the on field officials) is just one good practice they could but wont adopt.

They would have to start games earlier or else it would become ridiculous finishing times. 1400 rather than 1500 on Saturdays, no later than 1900 midweek.

And jib off 1730 fa cup final kick offs (ridiculous anyway).

Problem, as ever with all things modern football, is money (in the shape of the foreign TV market wanting start times to suit their timezone for live TV).
