Strange Season

Its just been a season of nearly's, could of's & should of's! We should of held off Newcastle in September, we could of easily beat Liverpool, Wigan, Reading, Norwich and maybe Arsenal! We nearly made it back to wembley... and jelavic nearly always nearly scored in every game!

We are a fantastic team managed by a man with less drive and confidence than before that has been figured more than once by every prem manager and lower. And a great club that just cant get investment.. that cant bulk up in the transfer window like spurs, arsenal or liverpool! The teams we are just as good as but are struggling to compete with!!

We can start fresh this summer.. get the business done quick and fast! With or without moyes..

our best team in years! Mis-managed, mis-handled and missed too many good chances! Keep the faith.. We are Everton! COYB

We were playing fantastic attacking football at the start of the season. The best football under Moyes. Most attacking sides in Europe in terms of shots. We were full of flair and we counter attack with so much pace. We dominate our opponent in almost every game we played.
The turning point, IMO, was the Fulham and Reading game in mid November. We dominate these 2 games but end up drawing and losing because of individual mistakes. We were trying to score more goals to finish off the opponent and got careless at the back. This 2 results had a big impact on Moyes and completely change his mentality for the rest of the season. He became cautious and talks about the balance between attacking and defending and holding onto a lead in one of the interview he had after the reading defeat.

Being cautious is fine but sitting on a one goal lead is over cautious at times. We never play with the same cutting edge after the Reading game. If these two games was the turning point of our season, yesterday defeat was the turning point of Moyes era at our club.
We need a more adventurous manager for sure. One that is willing to take more risk and not be frightened and change the philosophy after a couple of individual mistakes on the pitch.

nothing strange about it!! its a typical half season showing just the other way round to what we are used to!!

Failure to sign a first team player in January has killed us off.

Jan 2012: Pienaar, Jelavic, Gibson, Donovan IN. Players/Fans buzzing. Rise in form.

Summer 2012: Pienaar, Mirallas, Naismith IN. Baines/Fellaini STAY. Players/Fans buzzing. Good early season form.

Jan 2013: Stones IN. Players are tired. Fans frustrated. Chance lost. Dip in form.

With Moyes and Fellaini going and us going out of the Cup with a whimper I cannot see how the players are going to feel motivated for the rest of the season. It's just going to peter out into nothingness.

Typical Everton. Have a chance and don't take it. A battle for 7th or 8th it is. It all started so well and were finishing off with poor, sluggish, drained performances!

I don't know whether we still have had the most shots on target in Europe but we've scored at least 7 fewer goals than the teams above us. Only two of those teams have conceded more goals than us and it's only by one.

We've drawn twice as many matches as Spurs and a third more than Liverpool. Given that only United have gained more points than us from losing positions it suggests that we've forfeited a lot of points by giving away soft goals early in matches. For example Wigan away, QPR away and Liverpool at home.

It's frustrating that their are obvious problem areas that Moyes seems to be oblivious to, such as the fact that Fellaini's brace against Villa has been the only time that our front pairing has found the net in the league since the win over Spurs in early December and that we have conceded more headed goals by far than any other team in the division. If he experimented until he found a solution to either issue we could be in a far more comfortable league position.

There's no doubt start of the season was great. More attacking and the switch of Fellaini to ACM was a great move by moyes. Pienaar and baines were doing there thing on the left, mirallas on the right. The only real downside was defensively giving away some silly goals.

Mirallas then got injured, teams tactically looked to take out Fellaini and the left hand side. And with injuries we had NO right hand side. Jellavic lost form vic injured...nothing happened in jan.

There's a lot of reasons this season has tailed off. We all said early season wed have to be lucky with injuries. We havnt really, its always been the important players out. You can't go into a season with just a first 11, it will be very tough.

I personaly don't think moyes has done much wrong. I would of probably dropped Fellaini back more often and have more game time to Barkley. Fellaini can't handle being marked out if a game as soon as that was happening he should of been dropped back. I think he's a world class player, playing in various different roles but not world class as a No.10 week in week out.

I hope moyes stays, I hope Fellaini goes and he's got around 30M to play with for next season. Which If soi think we could be some team next year!

We really havnt had many days like Wigan over the years....

Its really just the same season as always... Just arse about face this time...

Whereas we're usually rubbish for the 1st half of the season and boss for the 2nd half,
we did it vice versa this season...
Problem is, it gave us all hope and something to strive for this season...
Before promptly crushing our dreams and pissing all over them...
Thanks Everton...
