Is it really bad that only just now I have realised that the replay to the 4-4 was played at Goodison? Can anyone fill me in on the rules back then, I know you kept replaying until their was a winner, but up until now I'd thought it would have been at alternate grounds.

After the 4-4 extra time ( after 1st game was 0-0 at the pit ) the 2 captains went to the half way line and tossed a coin to see where the 2nd replay would be played.

All added to the drama that made the FA Cup the world's greatest knockout competition -- before the FA decided to reduce the status of its own competition with a series of decisions starting with allowing Utd (who else) to skip the opening round so they could compete in the World Club play off (reportedly as an attempt to get FIFA onside in their bid to host a World Cup.

Yes mate it was brilliant want it. I was 12 or 13 years old, didn't have sky and didn't go to that game so had it on radio city ( I think it was full 90 minute commentary for this one as in them days it just used to be full 2nd half commentary for aways only ) so to be listening waiting on who won the toss after that game was quality.

No, that wasn't what happend that night, macca.

That is what normally happened but for some bizarre reason they had the toss before the game that night so EFC already knew any second replay would be at home.

Was it mate? Well I will trust you more than myself as my brain has been known to get muddled up. Got it half right though ;)

And of course Dalglish resigned afterwards and the rest is history. Or at least the RS title wins were. lol

Dalglish resigned after the 4-4,Ronnie Moran was in charge for this game as I remember being confident as they lost to Luton 1-0 away on the Saturday I think ( even as a 13 year old I was a bitter little git ;) )

Indeed he did Frank. The passage of time has clouded my memory a tad.
