Suarez's Punishment

Is he running for office or is he the victim whose team was sent home packing from the WC by the very offender & their team?...You're looking to spin it

And you're at least consistent in your defence of poor little Luis. I'll give you that much. Just keep convincing yourself he's really being hard done by and don't let the rest of the big, bad mob of world opinion sway you one little bit.

In terms of the ban from all football activities (ie training and going to grounds), and he has a bit of a point, not least because its hard to see how FIFA could ever enforce that. However he is still a world away from the pro-Suarez camp who are still at the stage of spawning ever more ludicrous conspiracy theories and insisting that much worse incidents have occured at this world cup (without of course actually saying what they are).

As an aside, would you be happy to have him at your club?

It is excessive and I said this before the ruling came out, that I hoped it wouldn't be some ploy to divert attention...which it was, finally...And no, I don't think it's going to stick because the very excessive nature will force Uruguay to fight this out publicly and I don't believe FIFA can legally enforce exile like this...It would be a major headache to an organization like FIFA that have enough headaches...But we'll see

As for his teammates, what do you expect them to do?...Defend him and obsessing over their reaction is juvenile

Everything I know about what sort of player Luis Suarez is, I've known since he was at Ajax...He's a nut, he was a nutter back then too...He was linked to Barcelona long before he ended up at Liverpool and openly wanted to play for the club...I just wasn't ever sure his talent was useful enough for Barcelona's attack to be too interested in him...Last season, I decided he'd be a great addition but never believed it was going to happen after Neymar and how much he'd likely cost

Now this, so maybe his price goes down and the possibility starts to look better...Would I want a striker of his quality, skills and competitiveness?...Would I be willing to put up with it as a fan if he goes nuts?...Would depend on what sort of nuts we're talking about...If he was a nutter like Pepe, absolutely not...If his biggest transgression is going to be biting someone once every year or so, yes...Especially when you consider he's never even been red carded in club play...Someone so dangerous that needs to be banned from even stadiums never even gets redcarded?...It's excessive

I'm defending the opinion that the punishment was excessive, not that a ban wasn't warranted or that he's a nutter...I'm merely giving some reasoned perspective rather than succumbing to mob rule

It's really not excessive.

He bit a man.

He's not in jail.

It's not excessive. He assaulted someone. And there is no argument that can be made that it was not intentional, or that it was something that occurred naturally in the course of a football game.

And it's his third offense. Do you not think a 4 month ban is acceptable for your third assault on a football pitch? If he punched someone three times instead of bit, should he not get 4 months?

My mind is blown that people are saying that assault is no big thing.

And I'm not succumbing to mob rule when I say the penalty wasn't severe enough. Just defending my opinion, which happens to be shared by the lion's share of supporters outside Anfield and Uruguay.

From anything football related?...Not training, not walking into a stadium, not being involved with his teams, not playing in his league which is not governed by FIFA?...Absolutely it's excessive

Even the biting victim himself, Chiellini, says the punishment was excessive

It seems a bit harsh when you put it in the context of someone receiving a ban for a terrible, leg-breaking challenge or an elbow to the head. However, in those instances you can't always know intent so the punishment may not be just. Often these punishments are based more on the result of the action and not the action itself.

There is no doubt about intent here, however. What he's done is beyond the scope of the match and completely outside of any sort of footballing act. It's also the THIRD TIME HE'S DONE THIS. You can't go around biting people on the pitch, we all learn this when we're three years old. Time for him to figure this out.

You couldn't possibly think the ban was excessive because of that reason, could you? You wouldn't set aside sense because Barca might be interested and you've decided he's now good enough for you saintly club. You're not like that at all....

Nothing more than this needs to be said.

Anyone who thinks he's been hard done by here needs their head tested. Especially in the case of @FCBarça who seems to have a compulsive need to be wrong about absolutely everything.

I mean it's not even an opinion - he bit someone! No, actually, three people. Three separate people! Anyone else would be arrested and jailed!!!

The only bit of the punishment that might fall down is the ban from all football activities, a ban from all competitive football will be enough. Biting three players in four years deserves a lengthy ban, indeed probably longer than the one handed out by FIFA.

As for his "competitiveness", the only difference between him and Pepe is that Suarez is a lot better at cheating and a lot less likely to react than Pepe is.

Oh, and he has been sent off whilst playing for Groningen, though how he hasnt been sent off over here is amazing.

I just hope this season Lee Cattermole finally utilises his god given talents and takes it upon himself to volley Suarezs testicles up round his ears.

Banning him for 10 games after bite number 2 didn't stop him doing it again. Perhaps this time, after bite number 3, the punishment may convince him to stop doing it. However, if there is a bite number 4 then there really is no hope and he should be banned for life..........
