Easier said than done when you know a big chunk of your future transfer money, if not from player sales, is going to come from league placing. A lot of decisions sound very easy to make but when you're skint, they can have long-lasting implications. I've never been one to harp on the money thing too much because you have to do with what you're given but it does play a large part in a lot things you'd think it wouldn't. The sh*t rolls downhill...

The game was there for the taking today. Whilst Moyes settles for a point, Fergie, Ancellotti et al would be pushing for all three. I'm not saying for us to be kamikaze, but having two strikers on would be a positive move. From the position we were in, it would only have been one point dropped if we'd lost, but three gained if we'd won.

Ok I see what your saying, so then why not do what he's done in the past (seen as that's what people think he should be doing) and bring in players like Cahill, Arteta and Pienaar on loan with a view to a permanent move? And not waste time on players like:

Guaye
Silva
Beckford
Arnott and his American mate.

Seem to be a waste of everyone's time.

Moyes built a reputation for unearthing gems for next to nothing, so what's happened to that ability?

a fair comment. Perhaps he was hoping Gueye, Silva and Beckford would give him a selection headache and it hasn't worked out like that. I'm sure he'd of been stunned if they all came good though. Most kind of acquisitions like this never come good. Moyes' track record is incredible - you only had to look at Coleman today.

Its early doors and we shouldn't right them off.

But yeah, you are right, it may be that Moyes dips into the loan market in January, for Donovan, and a striker at least.

Give them time FFS.

Well 2 strikers is not always the option. Watching Chelsea today with Anelka and Drogba - they just lacked that edge for me. It should be more about attacking players from all sides.

The lone striker gets bad press - but add in the attacking wingers, the playmaker, and the 2 full backs and you have an attacking side, and one that can retreat into a defensive mode just as quickly.

Yeah he had his chance before the start of the season. I think he showed a little bit of arrogance when he commented that he didn't need to improve his squad. Bit of egg on his face, so hopefully he can turn it around with a lucky goal or a win against the [Poor language removed].

Chelsea are much more fluid than us though. We stick rigidly to our system, defending in numbers and generally offering little support to the lone striker.

Its not even that. Moyes is increadibly over-rated, has wasted money and is the reason why we start our 9th season under him with no right winger and a relyance on an injury prone striker.
But he is better than walter smith so dont you dare question him.

surprised you remember him. What are you 13?

You're living up to your rep there, mate.

Let's ignore the Cahills, Artetas, Lescotts, Howards, Jagielkas... and focus on Per Kroldrup.

I disagree there. I think we are very fluid, we are just not scoring goals. It's always been Everton's problem.

With Chelsea, Cole and Ivaninovic will overlap, Lampard will get beyond Drogba, Essien will break from deep and both Alex and Terry are capable of breaking from defence to attack. The most that we tend to interchange positions is the obligatory swapping of flanks for Pienaar and his opposite number on the right. We're more of a banks of four and every man knowing their role sort of team. Today, nearly all our chances fell to the Yak. If it was Arsenal or Chelsea they would be distributed more evenly throughout the team.

I've said before that our centrebacks should most certainly be scoring from set pieces. Bainsey should be getting three or four goals per season too. We don't take that risk and break from our shape often enough for it to happen though. With the London clubs that I mentioned, everyone gets forward and everyone gets back. We tend to sit in position much more, making life fairly predictable for the opposing defence. Hence, why we have difficulty scoring.

The bigger problem here is that, the longer we go without a win, the more conservative Moyes is going to get...at least IMO. It's pretty obvious now, after 8 years, that it's not in David's nature to take a losing stance...even if it's at the expense of a win. For him it seems to be anything but a loss will do and that's an admirable trait, to an extent, but it can also be your undoing. Right now I'm just concerned that he'll turn this in to a grind all on his own because, above all, something is better than nothing...and I can understand why he gets in that frame of mind.

It's understandable, but so goddamn frustrating...
