Gibson suits Burnley to a tee. He's basically Keane so perfect for them, terrible for us just like Keane is.

Then we're stupid and deserve something going wrong. Awful way to do business.
No it's not. It's called stretching your euro/ pound out as far as you can. You don't just, as we seemingly did last year walk into a negotiation and say "What's your asking price? Ok here it is" just to get them through the door the fastest. We're signing these type of players for the next 4-5 years not for the next week.

Let Marcel pull the strings.

They might back down if no bid from United is incoming. Looks like this one will be resolved late in the day now. Proper cheeky as well trying to make a £20m profit on a player that’s played 5 times for you.

Of the alternatives;

Gibson - going for £15m, solid from what I’ve seen of him and loves a meaty slide tackle. Fairly sure he’s not a slouch like Keane but he’s no Jagielka either. Given that we need 2 centre backs I’d probably take him. Left footer too, which is required.

Rojo - actually quite like the nutcase, loves to obliterate opposition players and pre-injury at least had pace in spades. Lefty as well, however would cost about £30m and we don’t know what he’s like post acl injury.

Lascelles - unlikely if we’re not willing to spend £30m+ on Mina, as he’d cost at least £40m. My preference for the CB role though, think we should pay it.

Summary; Lascelles and either Rojo or Gibson would be fine by me.

I would go for Lascelles and also try get deal for Reece Oxford. Get them two and with Holgate and Keane four good options for Centre half and will only get better.

Count as non-EU?

BREAKING NEWS

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Arturo Vidal on a three-year deal from Bayern Munich.

The midfielder is now set to undergo a medical with Barca in the coming days.
Taken from the AS website.

Vidal arrival will push Mina closer to exit
Despite spending much of his club career in Europe - having played for Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus and now Bayern since arriving on the continent in 2007 - Vidal does not have a European Union passport, so his signing would push Yerry Mina, currently one of Barça's three permitted non-EU players, closer to the exit. Everton, Manchester United and Lyon are all linked with a move for the Colombian, who Barcelona value at 40 million euros.

Should increase our negotiating leverage.
