I couldn't even name one player in the whole squad that our entire fanbase would agree upon positively at this moment!
Everyone seems to have a bad word to say about every player.
This is completely true. Thing is, the most important aspect of having a successful club is having players who can actually play as a team. Then you introduce quality, but not at the expense of the team fit. Not every single player has to be the world’s best in his position, but you do need a few star players who realise their role in the team without giving it the big ‘I am’. Kane and Eriksen are great examples at Spurs, Man City are full of players like this and unfortunately, so are Liverpool.
You could argue that 80% of the players at the World Cup have to possess some sort of quality or they wouldn’t be there. We need to find the ones who have characteristics suited to the Premier League, that are team players and play in a position we need to strengthen (LB, CB, CM), aren't too old and would actually choose Everton over any other club out there if they are even available. When you narrow it down, we are probably only talking a handful of players that fit the bill if that!
Attributes, Attitude, Age and Availability. 4As.
We can all argue over the first one - we all see different things in different people. The second one is really hard to tell without seeing a player day in,day out, the third is important for resale value, but also the affect on attributes over time and the fourth one depends on the desire of the player and our budget!
Look at the signings last summer and only 2 of them ticked all 4 boxes lMO. Gylfi and Pickford.
Apply that criteria to the current squad and we arrive at the gaps we need to fill...
