Box-to-box midfielder who captains the Europa League finalists is a priority signing for fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman

Everton are closing in on a £20million deal for Ajax skipper Davy Klaassen.

Boss Ronald Koeman had made the Netherlands international midfielder a priority signing, and the Toffees hope to have him signed in the next 10 days.

Koeman, who made a scouting trip to watch the 24-year-old in the flesh, said: “It is difficult for a lot of technical and skilful players because the demands in England are so big.

"But Davy Klaassen has made very big steps.”

The arrival of the box-to-box midfielder will put England international Ross Barkley’s Goodison future in doubt, if he continues to stall over a new deal.
