Summer Transfer Window 2017

All about the money...rather than more attacking mids, we bring in sessegnon and 2 really top CBs

Yeah but Sessegnon at 16-17 is he, isn't gonna be anywhere near our first team, and especially not at FB. Even Fulham moved him further forward in the end. Koulibaly is about as realistic as van Dijk and Sanchez would be great but I'm not sure we're even looking?! Dolberg isn't an option either, I was talking to a Dutch journalist on Twitter who reports on Ajax and he said he wouldn't entertain us at this point IF he was to leave Ajax this summer....

Thanks for the detail. Didn't see those games, but he must've been doing something right if he's part of a team that got to the final to be fair. Dolberg was poor in the final too. Agreed.
He'd obviously get the chance to prove himself here (from me too). But, I wasn't too impressed with him in that final. One game only, I know.

Yeah he didn't play great that night but all in all he's had a really good season. But Tbf he's been doing it for a few seasons now. But he fits the profile of player Koeman likes. He works hard, he can play, he can press and also gets goals from a position we badly lack goals from. I think he'd be a really good signing, he's got good timing and intelligence with his runs into the box and he would get a fair few goals for us.

I'd go for Mahrez. He was saying he has no offers yet.

He looks the type who wants Monaco Arsneal ETC but they don't come in for him.

I remember Fonte wanting a move to United and ended up at a lesser club. I'd be all over him, he's burnt bridges at Leicester

He can play in a ton of different roles, too.

He for me is more of a straight up Ross replacement. He can hold the ball in midfield, he can get into the final third and do some damage probably better than Ross, although I don't think he quite has Ross's talent. Sigurdsson is absolutely not that type of player. He's an attacking player and is not a central midfielder that is going to hold up the ball.

He would definitely fit into a midfield 3 better than what Barkley would. He's more disciplined in there and will track back and help out defensively but he's got a great knack of breaking beyond the striker and getting into the box to get on the end of things and get a goal.

We really do lack a CM like that in the side. Davies is the closest thing to that but isn't really that kind of CM imo that will give us a constant goal threat from deep. But he can play, finds space well, keeps the ball ticking over and doesn't take unnecessary risks on the ball. I honestly think he'll be a good buy.

Hopefully we can do Sandro, Keane, Diego, Rahman and Klaasen over the next week or 2. It would be a very solid start to the window.

Rahman would just be a capable deputy for Baines

I was kind of hoping we would go for a really top class young left back to eventually take over from him - someone in the Shaw/Tierney/Sessegnon mould

Dunno if that's realistic given all of the above would want a fair amount of first team football and Baines isn't quite ready to be put out to pasture yet

Also - I might be being thick here, but Diego?

I still think we lack creativity from our midfield three, as good as Gana, Schneiderlin and the boy Tom are. Klaassen works hard, is a goal threat and would probably fit into Koeman's way of playing quite well, but he's not naturally creative from that midfield role. He'd be a good signing but I do think we have a slight hole in our repertoire

Think you are overselling Klassens defensive output myself, from what ive seen hes no better than Barkley in that respect, hes defo more number 10 than number 8 for me.

Honestly he looks like Naismith and he plays with the same energy as Naismith, but hes a vastly superior player in every other way.

He would a fine weapon to add to our Arsenal.

Thought Ajax's semi final 2nd leg was quite illuminating about Klaassen's defensive qualities - I had the same impression about him as you but he was the one disciplined head on the pitch as the rest of the kids in the team were all over the show against Lyon's pressure

The search continues for the fabled number 8 with la magica in his boots, but as ive said on a number of times, Ronnys system doesnt favour a central playmaker as a rule.

I think Ronny has this as a plan, 4-3-3 for most of the season IMO :

GK
FB - CB - CB - FB
DM
CM - CM
WF -- ST -- WF

I agree. Think that's the way he prefers to set up, occasionally alternating with a 4231 with a proper number 10

Think it's asking a lot for the only really creative players in the team to be wide ones. We shall see
