Everton have opted against signing M'Baye Niang from AC Milan, it has been claimed, leaving the way open for Arsenal.

Niang, who spent the second half of last term on loan in the Premier League with Watford, has been increasingly tipped for a move to Goodison Park this week, with talk a deal is close to going through.

But according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Everton will not sign Niang after having concluded that his profile does not fit that they are looking for.

The Toffees believe that the 22-year-old is not consistent enough and does not score enough goals.

AC Milan are willing to let Niang leave for the right price this summer and Watford did have an option to buy in their loan agreement, set at €18m.

Niang has been linked with several other clubs, including Arsenal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was keen to snap up Niang from Caen in 2012, but was beaten to his signature by AC Milan.

Yep the thing is their rejections are becoming more and more pronounced. Eupen already said that they prefer a more prestigious club, but who knows they are not rich so maybe they can massively overpay. Batshuayi prefers to sit on the bench ... They are now officially the desperate girl at the party.

Oh Batshuayi already has had some interaction with WH fans:

@mbatshuayi Zaza has played more minutes in the league this season than you have, let that sink in

Like this lad. If Rom goes to Chelski we should demand him and 55m (and yes I know swap deals don't happen....BUT neither did Everton doing business early....and big business at that).

lol Arsenal are signing our cast offs now apparently whilst we're throwing millions around getting whoever we want to sign before the window is even open. But ok, this is football.

2012 being the key there.

He's hardly improved in five years has he ?

Wonder if it's true that there was a 2nd player at finch farm yesterday, if it was the young centre half from city tosin adaraboyo

I'm a huge fan of Sigurdsson, and even I think 40 would be ridiculous. 30 tops. Realistically 25. Prices are absurd.
I agree it's a lot but it's the way things are now. We put high prices on our players who aren't for sale (stones, lukaku if sold) and so do other clubs.

Ross is in the last year of his contract and we allegedly want 50mil for him. Even though he's a few years older (and in his prime I would say) siggy must be worth a similar amount to Ross

Fair enough. Inflation in football is crazy.
