Do we think priority is on striker or on LB/CB?

I can't decide, but we really need all 3
Striker. There is not enough goals in this team at the moment. We'll score more from midfield than last year but not enough to make up for a 25 goal hole up front. To me Sandro, Rooney and DCL are not "strikers" if that makes any sense (Rooney used to be). They are forward players but they are just as/more likely to drop deep or drift out wide than to act as a focal point of our attack and this will affect their/our goal tally. I'm one of the few on here that doesn't think the focus of our attack has to be a big target man-type. I can see the argument for that and I'm not as opposed to the so called "grock" strategy as some others on here but I also think a less physically imposing forward who can hold the ball up in other ways (Tevez did it really well for the Manc clubs and he's about 4'7"!) could do a job for us just as well. Either way we need a genuine striker at the club, I don't care if it is a megastar or a prospect (just don't let it be Shane Long!).

Those figures are based on THE WHOLE TEAM getting behind the ball. They are still hopeless at set piece defending and getting close to wide players to stop crosses coming in.

You wish to start the season with Williams, Coco and Baines in the back four?

But ok....

No, not ideally but we're not Barcelona or Real Madrid, expecting us to replace the whole first team in one summer is unrealistic.

We just need to make sure we spend the money on players that will make a difference. Koeman is trying to get as many match winners in as he can and that'll help us the most imo.

The number of times you see the big teams play poorly but one of their players pops up with a moment of magic out of nowhere. We need players that can win tight games. With the likes of Rooney, Sandro, Klassen and hopefully Siggy he's attempting to do that as well as make us a danger from set plays.

He's doing everything right so far, imo.

Club are working on a striker and a cb by the sounds of it on top of getting Glyfi deal done so not sure where this 'should be a priority' nonsense is coming from.

Fair point this to be honest.

Worth pointing out that we only kept one clean sheet in 12 games against the teams above us, and shipped 23 goals in those games. The way the team was set up and organised meant we generally looked more solid than in the previous couple of seasons, but when teams really got at us we often looked like a shambles at the back.

It looks like the deal to buy 17 year old Lewis Gibson from Newcastle will be concluded today. I saw him playing for England U17s at left back in the summer and he was one of the players who stood out . I would place his performance as similar to Kenny and Connolly when they played at this age. It seems that we've beaten off a number of other clubs for his signature. At 17 he's still got a lot of development to do and obviously one for the future, although he has been touted as " breaking into the Newcastle U23s team " last season as far as I can tell he didn't play regularly for them, but given his age this season he has the talent and physicality to become a regular at U23 for us.

building a formidable youth team, happy days! Any word on that Dutch 16yr old striker Zirkzee? I can't find anything since he played U-18 without actually signing
