I think we'll be pretty good defensively next season. Much better goalkeeper and Keane is a big upgrade on our other centre backs. I expect Williams to be better with a quicker, more reliable player alongside him. Schneiderlen and Gueye will offer a good shield and it looks like the other players further forward will be working hard to close down the opposition.

It's creating chances and scoring goals that we need to improve more than anything. Sigurdsson and a centre forward should help with that. Ideally Giroud but if not then maybe go for someone with vast potential like Schick or Dolberg.

Don't think so mate, he is back in training and hopefully a lot straighter and in a better place than he was.

I don't believe we will hang onto him for sentiment.

Any anyway, I would rather see the likes of Lookman getting a run in those games than him, they are more of our future than he is going to be.
I agree on Lookman
I reckon Lookman will get game time in the league though whereas Lennon may not.
Lookman is still young and will be used cautiously imo

Maybe long term, but Stones still looks like a disaster waiting to happen every time he plays, and his 1v1 defending hasn't improved much over the past year. Gets turned inside too easily.
Don't disagree but I would still have him over Williams, short term or any term.

Saying certain players may/have declined is one thing, and it may well be true, but we still had the 6th strongest defence in the league last season and we have made 2 strong additions. When you start saying our defence is so bad we are in big trouble when all the evidence points to the contrary, it is hard to take it seriously.

I don't think the defence was any great shakes last season tbh whatever the stats say. Hopefully the signings we make by the end of the window or a return to form of some in the squad will mean it does improve. However I have no problem if somebody at this moment in time believes the options are not good in that area. I wouldn't go that far in my own opinion, but I don't think it's outlandish to state....if a little o.t.t to say big trouble.

I reckon unless we strengthen, teams are just going to get at us down the flanks next year, as our fullbacks are old/injured/sub-par/kiddies at the moment.

That's not really answering the point of my post though
I agree with FM ( who I don't really rate )out we need cover
I just think people are writing the defence off too early
We've added a GK and a CB to the starting 5
I'm sure Koeman has looked at the options and will sign players if he thinks fit
In an ideal world I'd like a starting CB and good cover for LB e.g. Tierney but obviously RK sees other priorities
