Summer Transfer Window 2017

Eh?

Signing Rom was the high point of the PL era? No chance.

The FA Cup run in 1995, Royle turning a bottom placed club into one of the most feared in the land was awesome.

Kanchelskis was a far superior player here than Lukaku.

The Summer recruitment of 07 when we bought Jags, Baines and Yakubu. That side in the following 2 seasons went really, really close to success.

Rom was a good signing. He never fully bought into us, thus never did it when it mattered, including one of the worst performances I have seen in a blue shirt at Wembley v United.
We made a profit and he will be forgotten about.
I never said signing Rom was a high point but you can guess who did.
I said signing Rom was a piece of business that was a no brainer
He wanted out of Chelsea , they wanted shot of him , Everton knew he could score goals for us , he wasn't a one season wonder
It was as surefire asigning as you could get

You set your bar, I will set mine, 7th and a decent cup run.

As you said the other day, only clubs who spend money can improve in this league, unless your now saying net spend isnt important?

Im really confused Dave, is it net spend or gross spend?
7th and a decent cup run after spending out £150+M?

Ha Ha Ha.

Moyes got us that half the time he was here for ten bob.

Nope, think again.

We finish 6th .....one point off your 5th place requirement. We reach a final and a semi final in the cups and are unlucky not to win one of them.

You are saying staying on given the above would be humiliating to the manager and majority shareholder?

We both know it's not as black and white as that.....the actual context of the season that will be played out will speak quite loudly even if not as loudly as position, points total and proximity to trophy-lifting!
5th lace isn't a requirement, it's a minimum, and a final isn't winning a trophy.

All down to cost benefit this season. And you can bet I wont be the only one looking at Koeman's spending and comparing it to results gained.

And before anyone chimes in with 'I thought it was a bout net spend?", the net spend is a figure that Moshiri has to contend with not Koeman. He's the 'investor who will again have invested hardly anything into the club. The money s there for Koeman though via player sales. Up to him what he does with his £150+M.

I came on here looking for some itk info on incoming signings...

Instead i get pages upon pages of davek putting forward an argument to sack ronk

Mental thread

It's a summer spending thread mate, the discussion is also about value for money so far as much as any individuals inked...for which many threads have been created.

Ahh I understand now... use gross spend to beat the manager and net spend to beat the owner?

...as this gentleman put it below....
davek's stuff in regards to spending is correct. Net spend could be seen as a measure of Moshiri, purchases is a measure of what Koeman and Walsh should be judged on.

Martinez's signings have paid for this summer's record transfer spending.

unreal the level of thought that goes into these attacks on our PL points record manager.

Koeman better hit more than 61 points this coming season.

Martinez was grim, the market inflation has helped put that slant on his transfer dealing of Lukaku, Niasse has wiped a load of that profit away, as did a load of his other plop signings on quite frankly ridiculous wages for what they are.

I don't want a worse player, I just don't see the merit in getting Gylfi bloody Siggurdsson for £50 million pounds! You could get Nasri for around £5 million or a loan and then have the money to go out and buy someone else or reinvest in other areas of the squad. We are going to have our pants pulled down on a player that isn't all that good.

And what would we do with Nasri during his potential four year ban for breaking the doping regulations mate?

Whatever mate.

His signings were the assets (and will be the assets in future sales) that will pay for our incomings.

But you keep saying without a big net spend we won't get anywhere and we haven't a big net spend as of now and we won't have at the end of the window according to you
If that's the case how can you realistically expect more this season
It doesn't add up Dave

Geri was fine. His assist count and crosses spoke for themselves. All supporters backed him for it. A manager preferred Kone, Barkley, and Mirallas..oh and Cleverly and an in form Lennon to him. Bad calls.. Then we signed Bolasie. Sevilla, I cant speak for. So really two managers and Bobbys delusion. And we made a profit on the player ffs!!

Barry could have gone elsewhere

Mccarthy was one of our best when fit. Even Koeman wants him. But he has been injury plagued for 2 years. He was linked to Spurs and Utd before then and we were fighting to keep him. Fortunately weve got other options now but he is a good player. Gone backwards? Give me a break.

Funes Mori has not robbed the club of anything. He is poor on the ball and if he didn't try passes beyond his capability nonody would even care but unfortunately he tries them often because his CB pairing is not much better. Mori aint going anywhere and has potential to be third choice and is better than Williams anyway. Quicker and better in the air. Would cover for Baines as he did last year.

Mcgeady barely cost anything and was rubbish hence didn't play much. So again, silly comparison.

Niasse was his major fault. Nothing else. Transfers ofc.

Even forgetting that your being massively generous to a lot if those, you seem to have decided to leave a few out.

Lennon - poor signing once made permanent.
Alcaraz - absolutely shocking player.
Tarashas, Rodriguez, and Kone and cleverley.

I agree Nasri would be lunacy, but I see why fans are irritated by the thought of blowing a third of the transfer war chest on a player - admittedly one who can be a matchwinner on occasion - with no resale value.

It's just nonsensical. £30M? Fine, do the business. Another £20M on top mugged off the club by caving into the demands of the selling club? No chance. This should have been walked away from once they started asking £40M.

The pressure on Sigurdsson and the manager if he comes and fails to produce will be unreal.

He will produce though Dave, as for pressure, can guarantee this season the only real pressure on any player will be squarely on Rooney from all the media for certain.

It does add up. The owner pumps almost nothing in again; the manager still gets a spending war chest about 5x that any other Everton manager has had to spend i any one window.

Net spend goes to the owners level of investment
Gross spending on players will be the measure of any manager
