Summer Transfer Window 2017

...it might be big kick off Saturday but there's still the best part of 3 weeks of the transfer window left. Here's this morning's gossip;

- Speaking to Sky Sports, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, said Everton target Olivier Giroud was given the opportunity to leave but decided he wanted to stay with the Gunners.

- Toffeeweb report Leandro Rodriguez's frustrating spell at Everton is over after the forward moved to Uruguayan club Danubian FC on a free transfer.

- According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Everton are keen on Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic. It's understood the player wants to leave but has a preference for AC Milan. 4th Official also go with the story. Italian journalist, Gianluca di Marzio says Everton are about to launch a £22.7m bid.

- Dutch outlet, Soccernews.NL, reports Everton are in talks to snap up 29 year old Brugge captain Ruud Vormer. The central midfielder has already played in 2 Champions League qualifiers this season.

Yeah, you're probably right mate. The combined experience of Koeman, Walsh and Moshiri probably had a meeting about a month and a half ago and concluded, "right, we sell Rom and then wait to see if Giroud will come, and if not, well, err.....oh, ummm..."

Hans Christian Anderson you mate.

Or, they had another plan which we don't know the details of , which they either failed to pull off, or which involved starting the season with such poor forward options.

Do you think any of these scenarios constitutes success?

Gonna be massive unrest amongst the fans if we fail to beat Stoke, knowing what fixtures are on the horizon.

Doesn't bear thinking about what it will be like if we lose ...

Mate I'm 32, I was 10 when we last won anything, I spent a decade of being taunted by RS uncles telling me every season that we were going down that year. I sobbed when the 1-2 punch combo of Barmby missing a pen and Dion Dublin equalising in 98 put us a Bolton goal away from going down. I got so fed up watching deadline day when we spent several windows without so much as a cheeky loan.

I'm not saying don't be frustrated, it's natural but for the love of god man, don't come out saying we haven't bothered investing in a replacement when not one of us has a scooby what the hell is going on behind the scenes, for all we know we have been working on a replacement before, during and now after Rom has gone but haven't found a viable target due to unavailability, price, wage demands or health

I don't really care if they've been trying to sign a replacement. Of course they have. But that's besides the point. It's the end result that matters and so far we've failed. We've had a month since the sale. That's ample time. We should not have been selling to a team one place higher than us, if we knew we were gonna struggle with a replacement. That's it in a nutshell. Pure and simple.

Dearie me mate, all this doom & gloom. I can rremember being snotted by Spurs, in the opening game at GP, and going on to win the league, it's a long time till April of next year, don't be a defeatist, keep the faith.

Looking more and more likely we'll be making another Enner Valencia style stop-gap signing up front.

Left field shout - Aboubakar at Porto (was on loan at Besiktas) could be worth a punt. But not without risk - never really played in the big leagues. Fast, Strong, skilful though.

If we can't land anyone decent up top do we just spend the cash elsewhere? Like a top CB to play alongside Keane, or a fast, creative winger?

Not doom and gloom. The club have put themselves in a situation in which they failed before the start of the season to add key players.

It,s shocking management top down.

The post 0-0 stoke meltdown due to lack of striker will go down in GOT history
But in some ways, rightly so. After such a good start to the window, its stalled. I'm positive we'll do more business before 31 August but of the 3 league games before that date todays is the most winnable. Not having an out and out striker obviously doesn't help.
There's always the bigger picture to look at, but a win today stops any short term meltdown.
