Summer Transfer Window 2017

Moshiri has been talking up a good game for a while now.

If we don't get a decent forward It's just playing for 7th place.

If we had any ambition we would have lined up a replacement before lukaku left. Months and months ago.

Bill chatting garbage as per usual with we have the funds to get any player the manager desires.

This mess should have been sorted months ago.

The lukaku fee of 75m looks a steal when they're rejecting 130m for mr inconsistency coutinho.

I am a little concerned with the style of team we are putting together. A static target man type added to what we already have is not what we need in my opinion. We are desperately lacking pace/movement

Tend to agree tbh. Deals for Sandro and Rooney, on the face of it, were good deals we couldn't turn down. But neither have pace, neither have height. Now we lack both and look a bit toothless.

Think you're being a little over sensitive there mate, I wasn't criticising you, or accusing you of anything, just saying that it annoys me when people suggest that fans are only capable of judging the window based on its last week. It is used a lot, and I just don't agree.

I think the fact that the forum has been full of people debating which striker we were going to get, and getting increasingly concerned as we got closer to the start of the season, suggests that the timing of our business has little to do with people's perception of the window.
Fair enough mate. I was responding to a post saying our whole window has been a disaster because we haven't replaced Lukaku, and I don't believe that's the case. It just feels that way because we haven't brought in the quality striker we want and need, and it looks increasingly as though we won't by deadline day. We all feel disappointed because we understand it's such an important position in the team, but you can't ignore the fact that a lot of good business has been done earlier in the window.

Anyway, hopefully we manage to pull a rabbit or 2 out of the hat and it will all be irrelevant then.

At the start of the window, I really wanted a target man. However I agree with you looking at the pace of the other top teams this season (RS, City and Chelsea) they have so much pace in their sides.
I'd reluctantly go for Vardy, as he would give us the pace we so desperately need. Alternatively, we could get a striker who has both pace and physicality: Dembele or an out and out target man: Dzeko.

Think this raises a point I've been meaning to make for quite a while this summer. If you look at the profile of players we've signed this Summer why do fans then feel like it's a guarantee we should be signings strikers from the Arsenal's, Chelsea's, Roma's etc. of the world? When have we shown we can prize away talent from top teams? And no I don't consider Ajax a top team any more.
Only when they are considered surplus to requirements. But sometimes their "surplus to requirements" players are still better than a lower ranked clubs best players, and easier to acquire as we found out with Gylfi.

Come on lads we all know deadline day deals come out the blue. Remember when we signed Lukaku after never even being linked with him once in the window and after we actually tried to buy Ba!? Stuff will happen, we will see if it's good in the next 30 odd hours.

Sorry I was a bit harsh there, I know what you're getting at.

I don't agree though, you can absolutely sign players for less than their quality suggests they are worth. If we sold Gueye now I would expect us to get £40m, Kante was signed for £5m and sold less than a year later for over £30m. They haven't improved beyond all recognition, they were just undervalued. If Sandro is only 'worth' £5m then we've made a big mistake signing him, because he won't be anywhere good enough for us. The idea is that he's actually worth much more than that, and we've just got a bargain because of his release clause.

Agree with this. But it takes time to nurture these players, they don't immediately develop a 600% increase in worth.

Players don't go from being £5m worth of Kante to £30m worth of Kante without a combination of improvement, success and exposure. You can guaranteed, had Leicester gone the way of Villa two seasons ago and been relegated; rather than having won the league, Kante would have moved on for £7 or £8m.

Value is always set by the buying team - the selling club can pitch a player at whatever they like; they'll only get what someone is willing to pay.

I agree.

I said on here about 6 weeks ago that I wasn't 'worried' like people kept saying, simply concerned. There's no way this is a disastrous window from an incoming perspective, and I think we'll finish 8th at worst with this squad. Unfortunately I also think we'll finish 7th at best. That's a real disappointment for me, and if we still have this squad on Friday morning then I think the window will have been a failure as we won't have improved in real terms. That's not a disaster in a footballing sense, but is potentially a disaster if we were ever serious about really making a splash and joining the big boys. Moshiri himself talked about us having a small window of opportunity, and 2 seasons of trying to hold on to the coat tails of those above us isn't going to help us go through it.
