Nah, need to cast off our fear of actual footballers in midfield. Had it during the Moyes years as well, a complete aversion to Arteta Osman or Pienaar plying in the middle together ye the odd times they were forced to due to injury we always played really well. I remember Osman and Arteta absolutely bossing United at Goodison in a midfield 2. Huge hulking defensive midfield crabs have got us absolutely nowhere recently.

The best midfield in the league has 3 diminutive players with no pace or strength at all yet they are three top players with footballing brains and tactical intelligence. I’d much rather have that than watch combinations of Gueye Schneiderlin and Siggurdson struggle to string passes together but come out with good stats because Gueye made loads of tackles (because we’re not in possession) and Siggurdson made the most key passes (because no one else in the midfield is capable of making any).

I think it’s just not how Silva lines up but also I feel our centre halves need the protection. Sosa would be like our Fernandinho in your lineup but that’s a lot of expectation put on a young lad (if we even get him).

@Zatara

6G / 1A in under 6 games you utter mutant.

Youre calling me a mutant because you lacked the intellect to comprehend the post i made yesterday about his goals to games.

You havent seen him play...he wasnt amazing every game....unless on your computer maybe.

No I’m serious they are asking for £16m for a loan fee plus £2.6m in wages for him. So just shy of £19m for one season with a 19 y/o kid that (although has shown talent when given chances) hasn’t had many senior team appearances in a league that favors tactical defending over physical.

And I don’t understand how being a Brazilian international has to do with anything in terms of him being being better or the fact that he is overpriced and valued the same as Lozano when Lozano has had 2-3 good seasons now and this was Neres’ first? I remember Jo being in the Brazilian squad for years even though he was absolutely atrocious.

Also I’m sure Richarlison picks his friends well but he’s not a scout. He’s 21 years old and doesn’t look at the club like a business like Brands does. All he could see is the opportunity for him to play with a friend while giving his friend a pay raise.

1: No one is paying that loan fee when he only has a year on his contract. Its nonsense.

2: Showing talent internationally e.g in a big tournament or over several games, increases the players value. Also Brazilians somehow carry a greater cache...

3: You cant say Neres is overpriced. Ajax and PSV are 2 different teams asking for prices for different players.

4: Perhaps Neres getting on with other players in our team is a trait we are willing to pay more for to forge greater team spirit?

Sigurdsson is comfortably one of our best players.

I think he’ll be phased out by Silva over this season. We build the entire team around him and whilst he’s been better this season I just don’t think he carries the sort of pace and intensity that Silva will want going forward. As soon as we can get goals from the forwards consistently I think he’ll be gone to give us more midfield control.

I think the same...dont think we will sell as his value will be minimal at 31 next summer...probably keep him around the squad unless a small team comes with a sensible bid to balance the accounts.

Not sure I agree with that, sigurdsson provides the majority of our forward pressing and at times covers the whole pitch when pressing the oppositions defence. He’s vital to how we set up in both attack and defence

... and also goalsssss
