Momentum should in theory pick up from now but the tendency in recent years across multiple windows is that the bulk of activity seems to be packed into a very limited time frame. You can have the majority of a whole years transfers done now within a two week period, so that leaves very little room for flexibility and time to cope with working down through a list of targets.

I'm confident they are on top of things and having Gomes with Lossl is about all we could have realistically hoped for by now.

I imagine we just need a straightforward answer from Lampard on Zouma before deciding to persue alternatives or not, but we need calrity as soon as possible.

With Brands and Silva bedded in this year, I hope we don't arrive at deadline day needing to get two or three signings over that line but that's much easier said that done.

Deadline day is great for business only if you do good business. The way things go now is that you need to have 80% of your business done by the end of July as things inevitably get stretched out until deadline day or a few days before otherwise. I hope at that point we have RB/CB Striker in and are looking to do a loan deal or two in the time left.

I think there is a lot in this really. Through the Moyes years I used to resent us having to do business at the back end. I'd always hoped that the investment from Moshiri (and others) may have allowed us to jump that cue (and to an extent it did, mostly 2 years ago). However what really followed from that was the worst summer we had had. Not all of this can be put down to signing people early but I do think there is some correlation there.

The reality is, in life if you put a deadline, or a deadline exists, people will haggle to that deadline. So to do most business early you either pay what the other side want or you delay and wait for them t start to move. Two years ago I would say, for the most part we did the former. In most cases we paid more than we arguably should have done (and in my view would have done with Brands).

The ley for last summer was really the Tierney deal, or lack of for me. That was a big moment for me for Brands. He decisively walked away, didn't pay what was asked when they wouldn't budge and trusted his judgements on a different player. For all the concern on here amongst other places, it has worked out very well. I said back then, Celtic would regret not taking the 25-30 million we were willing to pay. They wouldn't receive a bid like that again. The summer it looks like Arsenal will settle perhaps 10 or even 15 million pounds lower than that figure. It was an enormous miscalculation from them, who should have taken the deal that was offered. Players values can go up and down.

With Zouma I think we will see a similar situation developing too. I cannot see Brands allowing that one to rumble on into August. It's clear we have alternatives. Llorente for one. If we can;'t get it done, there will be a point we move on.

My mum only taught me one gaelic phrase. Something to do with kissing arseslol

I'm sure there was a "th" in that come to think of it.

Anyway, back on tread. I'm not in favour of bringing in another right back this summer. Seamus still does it for me.

Pog mo thoin! Pronounced "Pogue mu hone"

The t in th is generally silent in the Irish language.

Thus "thank you" - Go raibh maith agat is pronounced "Guh rev moh (the o is as in modern or motley) agut.

All very quiet on the transfer front!

I never mind doing business at the back end.
