Can someone please tell this uninformed American how Zaha (or any player for that matter) submitting a transfer request helps the club interested in buying him?

A lot of contracts have a "loyalty clause" , which basically is if the player gets transferred then the selling club will have to pay him an extra bonus. If a player puts in a formal transfer requests it nulls the loyalty clause. This helps because now the selling club is spending less money on an outgoing player. My guess is Zaha would get this money through everton in a form of a bonus or something.
