Any idea who that might be? I have a feeling DCL will remain our classy first choice but we will be left with Weghorst or the like when he is injured
Honestly have no idea everything gone quiet on that beto the lad linked in jan, gyokores gone sporting. Toure gone quiet with that, i seen myers said chance on all 3 elanga danjuma and gnoto

If we're going to end up with a punt on a Championship striker stepping up then there was no reason to sell Simms. If we are going to end up with Weghorst then I'd say the same. Gnonto might develop into a versatile forward so that is the one link that I hope turns out to be something. We already have players the equal or better of Elanga so see no point in signing him so that probably means we will.

It's such a shame that whoever we get in will miss the (four weeks) pre-season training/coaching/practice matches that Dyche provides and the bonding that goes on during this period. I fully expect that our signings (as they will be free agents/players surplus to requirements) will in the main be done in the last few days of the window (and after the season has started).

Missing out on pre-season will mean that the newcomers won't be ready for the start of the season and increase the likelihood of picking up an injury when they do start playing in matches.

The transfer window should close at midnight the day before the opening game of the season (Friday 11th August). The current situation (closing 1st September) favours the cash rich clubs who can get players in early so there's little chance of it changing (and yes I know it lines up with the other major European leagues).

Everton will have played three games before the window closes - factor in four weeks to get up to scratch and a returning Richarlison (!) would have missed the first seven premier league fixtures of the season.

Rant over

I'm sure striker is the priority in terms of importance, but sometimes the more important things take the longest time. It's not just a case of rattling down a list of 20 strikers and boshing in 20 offers, if there's one we really really want we have to be a bit patient and work on the deal before moving onto plans B, C, D etc. You can only go at the pace of the selling club.
Very sensible approach...unfortunately we know fair well that this is not how everton approach the window, at least not in recent times...more like waiting until late on to get the bargain deals and this is how we end up with players like maupay...cant quite remember but possibly our best late signing in recent years was lukaku on deadline day. That was a master stroke which hasn't happened again for some time. The reputation of the club is in tatters and its not going to help us attract the best talent late in the window.

The links to out and put centre forwards seem to have dried up. Some very tentative links to fulkrug and apparently he has rejected a contract extension at Werder Bremen. Can't seem to get a read on how much the fee would be, but I think he'll be off somewhere this summer.

I think he's a top 20 striker, I think at his peak maybe top 10.

I think their goalie is one of the best 3 or 4 goalies on the planet.

Hazard before he moved to Real was the best creative midfielder outside of Messi or Modric at the time.

I think they under performed as a nation, I think Martinez should take some responsibility for this.
To say that Martinez failed to win a WC with 1 world class footballer and two excellent players is a bit harsh.

SFist is probably a fair result.
