Summer transfer window 2023

A lot of that is also down to the mindset of how we setup and how we execute that plan though. When we do have the ball and try to get forward, we need to start trying to just get more players forward in support in general. You won't score if you don't have anyone in scoring positions, too many times last season we got the ball forward but there was nobody waiting in and about the box to pass too. We have to be more aggressive on the front foot imo.
away at brighton is such a great blueprint. and dcl played in that one not maupay. dyche’s latest interview about trying to open up situations for transfer means we skint

No great loss - he couldn’t get many minutes in an under-performing spurs team.
Looked into how he was in Spain when we were last linked, as I hadn't tracked his development. Unfortunately he is clearly miles better than any player we have been linked with. A lot more ability than Harrison for example.

People saying good riddance should remember how bad our side is and how God awful a lot of the players we are pursuing are. Even if Spurs were underperforming, he isn't better than Kane, Son, Kulusevski or Richarlison, so that is a redundant argument.

Most teams don't play with a target man type of striker these days though. The ones that are about (like a Gyorkeres) are out of our price range so we probably looking at a youngster who can use the club as some sort of platform or it will be some sort of dodgy loan of an ageing striker as backup. The striker position is an awkward one imo, I don't see a lot of options out there that suit us.
True especially in our position it's hard to get someone in their prime. But still we do actually play with a target man don't we it was proven when Maupay tried to play there we need that option of going long and relying on a injury prone Dom for the third season in a row would be madness. I guess a Gnonto/Danjuma type could also play as the main forward at times, but I agree it's probably going to be potential from another league like Toure or a Weghorst/Wood type on loan.

40 mill?

You need two players in every position - minimum, McNeill i see playing across any of the advanced positions behind the striker. Its not all or nothing. Gray could go and we also sold Gordon and Richalrlison, in six months. We definitely need players in wide positions, desperately.

Hes 26 mate, have i banged my head and that's now old, he definitely has a return on him as an investment.

By all means bring in Elgana, Gnoto, Danjuma (and we know he doesnt want to be here) - none of which are objectively PL starting players on recent evidance - all have potential certainly, but like Kean, Lookman, Onana, Garner, Patterson etc - there is no guarantee - that they are going straight into our team and immediately contributing and those players are in that bracket.

What im saying as much as their potential is exciting there is a broad assumption those players come straight into our team and improve us significantly - what im saying there is objective evidence and risk that may not be the case and we are a club a kick of the ball away from being a championship club, so the stakes are high- so it is a risk you dont have with someone like Harrison - who is straight's out of the box, contributing and impacting things immediately. Which is why he would be my priority, by all means sign the younger ones as well. But there is an assumption that signing young players and they immediately come into the team, just doesn't ring true to me on objective evidence referencing the players i have above.
I don’t think we can afford 2 players in every position if they cost 15/20 mil each. And McNeil can only really play on the left, as he’s so one footed he’s wasted on the right.

Maybe at a stretch he could play left of a 3 man midfield, with 2 more defensive players and Harrison on his outside. We need a right sided player first. If we sell gray and iwobi, then Harrison on the cheap maybe a decent deal. He’s on 50k a week at Leeds he’d want better terms and a 5yr deal I’d imagine. We ain’t ever making money on him. Because the only teams interested will be bottom 6 sides in 2 yrs and they aren’t spending huge money on a 28 nearly 29yr olds. Average teams abroad can’t match wages of the prem teams either.

I think he’s a good player and if we needed a new left winger/wide forward, like we did last summer, fair enough. And came in as first choice with a 19/20yr old as understudy then great.

But we’ve invested a lot of money on someone 3yrs younger who plays in his position.

People keep saying this but let’s be clear, there is no universe where this current version of Everton can buy someone who will ‘guarantee’ PL goals.

Anyone who has scored double figure goals in the PL and would actually be wanted by Everton fans, will be far too expensive for us to ever buy. Anyone older e.g Vardy, Che Adams, Ings etc. wouldn’t be wanted and doesn’t carry any guarantee they can score as they did previously.

Anyone from abroad obviously hasn’t done it in the PL so there’s no guarantee what number they’ll score.

Players perform differently under different managers in different teams. Richarlison was double figures goals most seasons for us, goes to a better team, gets one goal. McNeill had scored one pl goal in 18 months or something ridiculous like that before he joined us, he then got 7 last season most of them in the half season under Dyche.

If Calvert Lewin stayed fit all season, big if then playing the game most on here seem to like playing we’d say well he’ll get over 10 goals and McNeill will get close to that as well, why don’t we add in Dele’s as well? Suddenly there’s no problem is there.

It just doesn’t work the way far too many people are going on about on here, every time we buy someone going ‘where’s the goals though’. Everyone is a gamble, we’re not going to buy a player that everyone will be unified in saying ‘oh great there’s a guaranteed 20 goals’
👏
Buy cheap, buy twice.
There is an area of the market where we are basically praying for miracles

Hopefully the German lad, apparently available for 10mil. Better than wood and weghorst

Sheffield utd are interested in holgate.
Iwobi only has 6 months before he can arrange to leave on a free and hasn't signed the contract from us, so it's cash in now or leave for free, which we can't afford.
Maupay will hopefully go to a french team
Gray linked to Saudi some hopefully go for the cash as we could do with the cash as well.
Onano I only put possible as west ham were interested in him before, now have money and European football.
That's without mentioning gomes

I have no insight, just looking at the news and movements in the market
As much as it makes sense to get rid of Iwobi, i can’t see him agreeing To sign elsewhere unless it’s a CL team which isn’t going to happen. He’ll sit it out for a year and cash in next yr, maybe in Saudi but will look for a signing on fee wherever he goes

I understand what you are saying I just don’t see goals from that team,if the stars Aline as you hope then that’s being generous about 20-25 goals can you see another 25-30 goals coming from the rest and the subs mentioned.
There is no magic wand for a 25 goal striker on cheap money I get that but unless we can get to around 50 goals with a solid defence behind that we’re going to be bottom 6 again
